I cannot get the piss smell out of my Mom’s house 😭

I have painted, scrubbed, steamed, the air ducts have been cleaned and encapsulated but it still smells like piss 😭

She died two years ago and her husband and his gf, who he moved into mom’s house while she was in hospice, lived here and I don’t understand how they smelled it up sooo bad.

If it’s in carpets, best to throw away.

That’s awful. Perhaps a consult with professional fumigator or deep cleaning business might help. I don’t know other than this. It seems you have tried everything yourself. I’m sorry. 🙁 @RebelFox

That’s horrible. Are there carpets? If so, try shaking baking soda everywhere and leave it as long as you can before vacuuming it. Maybe open bowls of baking soda spread around the house might help too.
MellyMel22 · F
@RebelFox They say it can, but I’m not sure if it’ll work. I would def try it. I’ve done it for other things and it seemed to help. Is it really hot in there? Cause that can make it worse.
RebelFox · 36-40, F
@MellyMel22 it’s climate controlled. It’s very humid here and when it gets past a certain percent the smell is worse. It’s raining today which is likely why it’s bothering me so much 🤢
MellyMel22 · F
@RebelFox Oh dammit 😞 I wonder if diffusing certain oils might help if you do it regularly? Be careful if you try it if your dog is staying there. I think there’s certain oils that aren’t good for dogs/cats.

Is it a slab foundation? If urien sat on the slab (seeped down through carpets and padding), then it's likely in the concrete - about the only way to deal with it is to use a commercial grade enzyme cleaner on the slab, let dry, seal it and replace the carpet.
RebelFox · 36-40, F
@Ontheroad it’s a crawl space
Ontheroad · M
@RebelFox Then wood or mdf/osb flooring? Same, or actually worse than a concrete slab. I ran assisted care and retirement communities for years and this was a common problem in those we had carpet in. The fix is the same, just takes more (two applications) of the enzyme solution and a longer wait period with wood flooring.

That's pretty bad. If you have carpets, you might just need to have them ripped out, along with the padding. I'm sorry this is so difficult for you.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
@RebelFox Getting it ready to sell, or live in?
RebelFox · 36-40, F
@DunningKruger I’m living here for now, trying to fix it up to sell next year.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
@RebelFox Other than lots of vinegar and baking soda, I'm afraid I don't have any idea how to help.
Magenta · F
Yikes.
I know that meth houses where they've cooked it, can smell horrible like that. Probably soaked in the woodwork.

RebelFox · 36-40, F
@PepsiColaP I don’t even know why 😭 Like my mom died and gave him lifetime rights to make sure he had a home and he destroys it and leaves it to the daughter that way?? Wtf did either of us do to deserve being pissed on?
@RebelFox im sorry . i know youre doing your best ,maybe saving up for a professional clean is the way to go. hopefully itll take a weight off your shoulders
RoxClymer · 41-45, M
probably have to rip it all out down to the studs
RebelFox · 36-40, F
@RoxClymer I can’t afford that. He was supposed to maintain the house. He destroyed it.
RoxClymer · 41-45, M
@RebelFox totally understand, best option might be to sell it to someone who has the resources
RebelFox · 36-40, F
@RoxClymer I’m doing what I can and plan to sell it next year
Josh1454 · M
Have you used an ionizer?
RebelFox · 36-40, F
@Josh1454 What is that?
Josh1454 · M
@RebelFox https://www.breathingspace.co.uk/ionisers-i76
Josh1454 · M
@RebelFox it essentially will electrify the air and burns anything away. So if it’s no longer in the wood or anything then it’ll get rid of it. Unfortunately, if the wood is saturated then it means you have to pull it up if you haven’t already.
WaryWitchWandering · 36-40, F
Pull out the bleach… bleach it allllllll
Rhode57 · 56-60, M
I am so sorry its probably in the floor boards the only way to get it out then is new floors . It soaks into everything and anything it touches has to go so plaster or wood on walls and floors , paint wont mask it .
Pretzel · 61-69, M
haven't gotten rid of/treated the furniture and carpets?

they make some neutralizers that get rid of that kind of smell (might have made its way down to the padding under the carpet too)

Burn dried sage, again and again and again. Supplementary with what others have suggested here. Best of luck. Are you about to move there ?

Throw a Molotov cocktail into the window and wave it goodbye 🙂
RebelFox · 36-40, F
@SW-User I wish I could but the insurance won’t cover what I could sell it for.
BarbossasHusband · 36-40, M
Have you tried vinegar?
