Why is Polyamory so looked down on by society?

Is it that much of a problem to love multiple people so deeply in their eyes?

Social norms and conformity culture. Also, marriage culture in general. Marriage as we know it has a lot of roots in economics and property law. If a woman is only with one man, then that man knows the children are his to take care of. It's why even when men could take many wives at points in the past, women were not general allowed multiple husbands (in most Western cultures).

A long time ago, it was about what a man owned, and his family was in that classification.

Society has evolved quite a bit, but a lot of relationships are founded on the premise of owning each other. Honestly, I believe it is part of why breakups are usually so toxic.
