Is there anyone else without an extended family and does it make you sad?

It is seriously just me, the hubby, and the kids. I know that I should be grateful that we are all together, but I feel so lonely and like we're missing out.
The thing that gets me the most is around holidays when everywhere they show big happy (or not so happy) family gatherings with aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. 😕 Anyone else in a similar situation?

My Parents died when I was a kid.. I know all about the void of family. It's also uncomfortable being in that environment now though!

It just me and one sister left. I never knew my father's parents or my mother's father and my mother's mother died when I was young. Bothered me growing up when after Christmas break or summer break all the kids talked about what they did with their grandparents, and I didn't have that. It's sad but you deal with what you can't change.

It's just me and my children as family. Both my parents are long deceased. The holidays can feel sad and depressing at times. I've been to other families having get togethers and witness the closeness and laughter amongst people who love each other very much. That can be very emotional for me to be around.
