They likely need to be used in a socket intended for high wattage. Many household sockets are rated for 60W. They may also be intended to use only in a fixture like the one shown on the left side of the box. I suggest you use an electric heater with a fan that can be placed in a safe location instead.

@WowwGirl If the garage isn't well insulated consider adding some. Also, consider looking into having an electrician install a wired-in heater with a thermostat. If you are in a very cold climate and have natural gas, look into a natural gas heater as they can be less expensive to operate.
