My ex’s mother would start buying gifts and holiday items as soon as they went on clearance after the previous Christmas. She had a big closet space to store everything.

👀 I don't do that because I don't have anyone to buy for. However I want to slap you because Thanksgiving is still two months away. What's the rush? Let them get the Halloween stuff off the shelves. Thanksgiving used to come next in the stores now it doesn't exist

@Nimbus Not your Thanksgiving — the church harvest festival. Ours is a whole different thing.

Its' a federal holiday — the entire country shuts down. The fourth Thursday in November. It's not religious anymore, not really. It's the closest thing we have to a national family reunion day.

Here's the ChatGPT version of it's founding

It's founded on two things: the 1621 harvest feast at Plymouth shared between Pilgrims and the Wampanoag — which was really a diplomatic alliance-cementing event, not a religious thanksgiving — and Lincoln's 1863 proclamation during the Civil War, which turned a colonial anecdote into a national holiday as a tool for reunifying a fractured country.

The first gave it a story; the second gave it a date.

For me, Christmas will be sending FREE Christmas cards I receive in the mail. I already have enough stamps to mail them. Then I will put up my door wreath, (which is REALLY nice), and trot out my tiny fake tree. Then I have to choose an item from things I already own that is nice enough to give at our annual Christmas party. Which I find uncomfortable, so I leave quite early.

We have already put our Christmas food order in and paid the deposit. Some items are already out of stock.

Prices have gone through the roof, claiming poor harvests, the price of fuel and the war in Ukraine.

It gives the Food Company a tax free loan for two months. I suppose that is a gift for the accountants.
