Amazon gift card if you don't know them very well. If you know a lot about them, for instance...if it is an older woman who loves jewelry...try Etsy for some hand made crafty jewelry.
For an older guy, you can't go wrong with scratch tickets.
Unless they're into something specific, most gifts are likely just shelf fillers. Something to be tolerated for a while before being thrown out/ given to charity stores etc.
I suppose if you know of a cause they support you could always make a donation in their name.
Something 'consumable', food or drink, or maybe something like toiletries. The thing is, when you're pushing seventy, if you want something you very likely already have it. So, 'stuff' is best avoided, One can have too may cafetieres, knife sharpeners, coasters, teaspoons, cookery books...they just get in the way and have to be found new homes.
Guys like power tools, but if they are old they may have everything already. Still, a new set of carving knives is always fun. Women.. vibrator maybe? no idea really.
@MasterLee Sig really fucked up with their M17/P320, refusing to acknowledge it has a nasty drop fire problem. Myself, I prefer my Beretta 92FS, Bersa Thunder .380, and Bersa Thunder .22, as well as my Ruger 10/22...
