I Love Christmas

How can I not?

Jesus (5BC-ish, observed day)
Orlando Gibbons (1573)
Sir Isaac Newton (1642)
Humphrey Bogart (1899)
Annie Lennox (1954)
Justin Trudeau (1971) (AND his younger brother, in 1973, apparently)
@Harriet03 's mum
Me (199-something)

All born on Christmas Day.

How can I not love it?
(Although my mercenary nature is put out by the considerable lack of present-receiving opportunities the rest of the year...)
Yes, especially Isaac Newton, the incredible genius who invented Calculus! It's also important for everybody to remember that Christmas is not about presents but about celebration of birth and rebirth, the coming and going of seasons, of reaping what has been produced in the summer.

The German tradition of the Yule log, burning for 12 days, representing endurance. The birth of Christ, representing rejuvenation and hope. The luxurious eating, representing the refreshing idea of dissolving hierarchies in compromise of community.

It's all so beautiful.

@Existentior And giving me stuff, representing how great I am ;)

JK. I completely agree with you :)
@Murmurs Good, because if you agree with me I'll give you stuff, representing how great you are.

I think we should celebrate Newtonmass, seems appropriate.

@Harriet03 Hahaha

Reminds me of a thing from an episode of the Goon Show:

Eccles:
Oh, yeah! And I'll get it [the job of BBC announcer] too, you'll see! I'm wearing a Cambridge tie!

Greenslade:
You? You were at Cambridge?

Eccles:
Yeah!

Greenslade:
What were you doing there?

Eccles:
Buying a tie.

If you actually read the Bible, assuming any of it is true, then you'll find that Jesus was born in September, not December.
Murmurs · 31-35, F
@PikachuTrainer I said 'observed day' for a reason ;)

I always thought he would have been born about Easter time (rather ironically), given there are shepherds in the fields etc in Luke's version.
@PikachuTrainer @Murmurs Saturnalia! or the feast of Sol Invictus!
