The "Hispanic Heritage" month

Just a random 30days that starts in the middle of September and ends in the middle of October or something weird like that, America has decided to "celebrate" Hispanic people. It really grinds my gears!! As a Cuban and Panamanian woman darker skin is very underrepresented in this Hispanic "month"! They make everyone look the same and it's irritating. Like way to be inclusive but not though馃檮

Ah well. It's actually been a great day so I guess I just gotta take the lemons and trade the for apples馃槉

My wife is Mexican and she鈥檚 totally not into it either. She calls it just a month-long Cinco de Mayo in that it鈥檚 just an excuse for Americans (she actually said white people, lol) to celebrate shit when Hispanics don鈥檛 care about it.

@Ducky even Cinco de mayo is not as big there as it is here from what I here which is hilarious. And all the people who love Mexican food but are so hard up on Mexican immigrants....it's weird.

@MizzO Cinco de Mayo is actually an American holiday, it started in California near the border. Only a few Mexicans near the border celebrate that day.

The dynamics of Tejanos, Mexicans are really hard to explain but some of the most hardcore anti immigrant folks that I have ever met are not White Americans with ancestors from UK or Germany.
They are fairly white Americans with ancestors mainly from Mexico.

@REMsleep i don't know if you meant to tag me but I didn't say anything about anti immigrant folks being white. I clearly stated the knowledge i have about Cinco de mayo is second hand. What I said was that people who like Mexican food yet still are anti immigration are weird. That's my opinion. I'm entitled to it. I have met strange folks. I'm not saying every person who is anti immigration needs to not like immigrant food. It's just weird how some have such an aversion or distain for the people that make the food they like.
