Imperial Fists legion organisation

I know you're all sick of hearing about Warhammer at this point, but I need to write this down somewhere.

In the great crusade before the finding of the primarchs, space marine legions were organised into companies (with 3 platoon-style groups within them but not actually given a name), which are then grouped into battalions, and 2 battalions would make a chapter. After Rogal Dorn was found, he preferred the main organisational block to be the company and pretty much every officer to be some sort of captain. They did have a formation called an echelon, which is basically just giving the platoon-style one a name, except it would have been company-sized. Companies then would have been somewhere between the old company and vattalion, roughly the size of a battalion but filling the old role. The battalion would, in turn be closer be closer to a chapter, but really were just tactical groupings of companies that changed between deployments/operations and not a formal designation in themselves. Chapters were referred to as households or regiments but weren't really a strict organisational detachment. Then we have cadres, which seem to be battalions of specialist companies - the most famous was the 6th Assault Cadre under Fafnir Rann.

This is all headcanon based upon the contradictory writings of the Black Books from Horus Heresy 1st edition which don't have a lot of information but changes names of things sometimes for some reason. Rule of cool I guess?

You have no idea how tempting it is to put this in the category 'fisting' as a joke.
