I don't feel validation from people who flock to me when I don't have a hijab on.

Platforms like this are cool since you can't see the person. You get snippets from photo choices and profile name.
But the core of developing a friendship is through your interactions.
All I can say is after being at an event yesterday one of the things you have to do is pick up on something about the person to strike a conversation.
It may be superficial to start but it could develop into something more.

People are intimidating!

It's interesting, when you make a change that has nothing to do with other people and doesn't affect them, how they react and treat you afterwards. You are still the same person. Though it must be tiring to live like a social experiment when all you want is genuine relationships.

I made a deliberate choice not to make a deal out of your hijab because frankly, I don't know what I'm talking about. You look how you want and be happy with it and I shall remain an enthusiastic cheerleader. I can't imagine the kind of weird shit you get from people about it.
