I noticed the same thing. Looks like the downvote is pretty much gone.
InOtterWords · F
Is the downvote now visible?
At least it will stop all the nasty bullying

@InOtterWords It’s visible to the person being downvoted—if they have VIP. It’s not visible to others.
InOtterWords · F
@bijouxbroussard i think it is a fair plan.
Elessar · 26-30, M
I'll continue to use it against trolls and rightwing psychos as per my usual.
Even better if they know where it's coming from, lol

@Elessar Same. I rarely downvote, but never where I wouldn’t be willing to be identified.
helenS · 36-40, F
I have never used the downvote feature so far, but if I did, I wouldn't downvote anonymously. I would identify myself as the one who clicked the downvote button.

Maybe it's coincidence? I think the whole thing should be gone, as it's entirely negative (the ability to report already existed).
I saw a post today, someone took a screenshot of downvotes on a post they asked... and it made me worry (yes I worry a lot), this would become the new norm to shame people on here (which does happen).

@bijouxbroussard yes for something that doesn't need to exist... but maybe that's cause I'm willing to say to someone I don't agree with how I don't, even when I feel bullied, and I feel the report button works much better?
bijouxbroussard · F
@SW-User I didn’t understand a reason for the downvote and rallied against it. But obviously they added it anyway, and have no plans to remove it. This was a compromise. That’s why I referred you to the admin announcements for the backstory.
SW-User
@bijouxbroussard That's okay, I appreciate your referral. I already know it, but thanks. I think it very misguided but what do I know?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
Yep. Cowards.
I mean, abolishing downvote would be a better option but nobody knows who all the VIPs are.

@helenS Yeah sorry. The downvote is still bs.
helenS · 36-40, F
@Burnley123 I don't have VIP status; I try to support SW by not installing an ad blocker, and I purchased some attractive skirts that were advertised on here.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@helenS I'm not bothered whether you are VIP or not lol.
Bushranger · 70-79, M
I think that confirms my belief that many people who downvote are basically cowards. Not all, of course.
bijouxbroussard · F
@Bushranger Exactly. People were using the anonymity to be nasty.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
I guess I wouldn't know. Only got a few down votes and those were all political replies I made. I do tend to jump around from multiple groups now because they both diabled the new-post link. Them saying "it was an exploit".
Yet my feed is so slow that it's not worth it. So I go directly to the groups. Those are not filtered by anything. And are chronological within the group. No mixing by popularity. I don't want popular posts anyway.

Like someone else said it sounds like a way to get people to spend money on VIP.
SW-User
Oh great now you've triggered my desire to downvote posts
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Oh my, I didn't even realize the policy had changed.
Peaceandnamaste · 26-30, F
Oh no there goes the downvotes again.
bijouxbroussard · F
@Peaceandnamaste Yep. But this time I know who did it.
SW-User
Yeah because they don't want to suffer the huge harassment they will get.
SW-User
i think it's a very volatile way to encourage the purchase of VIP. i wish the entire site would just boycott it altogether. we have the power, but little will to unite... i thought. maybe there is hope.
remember, y'all, people can hide their VIP status. it was always a coward's way, keeping it secret. either show all to all, or get rid of it. we could all get rid of it via boycott.

@SW-User I have used it very rarely, and never on any post where I wouldn’t be willing to be identified. I get what you’re saying about paying to avoid abuse. Some of us are already doing that, because 500 blocks are really not a lot on a site where people can have as many alternate profiles as they’re willing to provide an email address for.
SW-User
@bijouxbroussard i have used it where i would gladly admit it as well. the last site i was on showed up and downvotes for everyone. all votes could be seen by all, and the comments with the most positive votes were automatically given best comment status. it was competitive, but people were held to their individual accountability. and blocks only kept people from participating on your posts, but they could still see the post. i've often wished SW could have a blend of the best aspects of that site and this one. middle lines are hard to come by these days.
SW-User
@SW-User Exactly.
I'd pay for VIP if it really meant something good.
As is, not a penny anymore.
