I worked retail for years and it never ceased to amaze me the number of folk who came in and spent an absolute fortune on lottery and scratchcards.
I'm sure some used to spend a good proportion of their income on them.

Did an experiment one year.
Given that there will only be one line on the lottery that wins (UK) I put £1 in a jar and spent £1 on the lotto Saturday, for a year !
Winnings totalled - £20. Savings totalled - £52

A hundred. My cousin buys one paycheck a year, then fills out the second chance drawings. A few years ago he won 70 grand. I thought he was foolish. *facepalm*
