I highly suggest a gen 4 or gen 5 Glock 43. It’s small enough to make the perfect concealed carry hand gun. My fiancé owns one. She is a mere 5’ even and it’s perfect for her.
They have a striker safe / double action trigger which’s great for carrying one in the chamber while it’s holstered.
They’re easy to strip and clean.
But I would suggest finding a store/range that sells. They usually let you rent them for the range and you can test out what you like.

I have a small collection of about 21 guns I would recommend that you find a gun range at a gun shop where they will let you shoot a variety of different guns so you can see what is the best gun for you. You also need to consider how you're going to carry this gun is it going to be in a purse or on your waist in a holster. How much weight are you willing to carry around for instance a desert eagle would definitely be more weight then I would like to carry around plus the desert eagle though it is a wonderful gun is not very practical for everyday use. Do you live in a city or out in the country the reason why I asked this if you live in a city you want to make sure that should you hit a bad guy that that same bullet doesn't travel through him and through the next building and kill someone who is innocent like a child. Most 45 caliber guns and some 40 caliber even after they've shot a person can still penetrate a building and injure someone else. You would probably want to look more for a 9 millimeter if you live in a city. If you want to know anything else feel free to private message me.

@NativeOregonian I think we are both very pro-gun but we are also very cautious and very well trained for the responsibility we have accepted with the respect for firearms that we have. I base this on your comments and my comments.

Just signed up for a class next Monday cause I have no clue what I'm doing. Like I get the general concept: look down the barrel and squeeze. But I'd feel a lot safer after a lesson

Glock (G43) 9mm. It’s a compact , will fit in your purse , not much recoil

I'm looking more for a 9mm hand gun. Anyone have personal favorites?

Before you buy anything, take the safety courses your local range offers and ask to "test drive" several pistols, safety is main priority.

Get it some bullets. It's not going to be much good without those.
