Not much but it helps contribute to content so......

"Make sure you click that like button and subscribe!" 😁

@SW-User Anytime they say that i downvote the video no matter how good it was

@Tminus6453 a down vote is as good as a thumbs up, its not differentiated, same as subscribing and using the reminder they are all classed as interaction. Adds to revenue. You just watched something, entertained or bored or enraged, it doesnt cost you anything to interact and help the creator. You may pay a sub for Netflix or sky or something, you're still paying for all the stuff you don't like, don't watch. What's the difference? Nothing is free!

@SW-User I know views equal revenue, but im still not givin them a thumbs up

Pennies, and even that takes a certain threshold of views. And you have to avoid being demonitized, which means you're basically limited to posting cat videos at this point.

@Sicarium I'm thinking of uploading speedpaints which seem pretty safe, but I heard that someone got their vid demonetized for bullying because the title had the word 'roast' in it... even though he was talking about a literal chicken dinner roast X"D

(Idk how true that is, but these days you never know)

@Fishy It really wouldn't surprise me if that happened. YouTube is demonetizing for absolutely ridiculous crap like that. YouTube is killing their own ad-revenue model with their idiocy.

I'd start the channel, post a few videos, and apply for monetization. If you get approved, be careful with the titles and metadata. Once you get a decent enough subscribers, start up Patreon account (or equivalent) and point your viewers to that. Don't count on YouTube ad revenue. Once Patreon gets going for you, you'll have more freedom on YouTube.

@Sicarium Yeah Patreon sounds pretty good. I'm still trying to figure it out though, what quirks/bonus features I should have on it etc 😅

From listening to a favourite youtuber, that depends on whether you post something that youtube management doesn't like. Like anything that hints of not being pro Christianity for instance gets demonotorised (payments revoked) immediately. There's other subject matter that has the same effect so it's not a free speech platform when money is involved.

If you go to socialblade.com put in your fav YouTube you can see thier revenue projections, that's possible not what they actually do earn from revenue!

@Dewkissedrose it's an acceptable career but it's not recommended as an only income, certainly until you're established. Of course there is creator burn out and you have to be generally squeaky clean. YouTube can drop you like a bad smell in an instant over the slightest controversy.

@SW-User I also teach 8 th graders. By the time they graduate, there may be something better. I usually ask them about handling finances, and they have no idea. I teach math, and they try to tell me they don’t need it. :). Silly kids

@SW-User
YouTube can drop you like a bad smell in an instant over the slightest controversy
Even if you were controversial on another site and not YouTube?
TheGreatLeveler · 31-35, M
Between one and three dollars a thousand views. It depends on how many monetized views they're getting. Although some of the more controversial videos on sensitive topics might not be allowed to run ads at all.
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
Not much. Patreon is the new payment model.
MURD3RM0NK3Y · 26-30, M
like half a penny
