Congratulations anti-vaxxers! They said it couldn't be done!!

But you guys wouldn't take no for an answer - you brought POLIO back to the USA! Amazing!!

A young adult male in Rockland County NY, who didn't leave the country, has contracted polio (AKA poliomyelitis). They don't know where he got it, other than from some other infected person. Yes, he's unvaccinated, despite the requirement that all school age children be multiply vaccinated for polio.

He showed up at his doctor's office complaining of weakness and paralysis.
Polio is very contagious, and a person can spread the virus even if they aren't sick. Symptoms, which can be mild and flu-like (fatigue, fever, headache, stiffness, muscle pain, vomiting), can take up to 30 days to appear, during which time an infected individual can be shedding virus to others. Though rare, some polio cases can result in paralysis or death.

In this case, sequencing performed by the Wadsworth Center – NYSDOH's public health laboratory – and confirmed by CDC showed revertant polio Sabin type 2 virus.
Yes, the paralysis is permanent and irreversible. And it all could have been prevented by a few routine doses of polio vaccine; CDC recommends total of four doses: 2 months old, 4 months old, 6 through 18 months old, and 4 through 6 years old.

Sixty plus years of hard work by doctors and epidemiologists and public health officials is starting to be undone by anti-vaxxers and the misinformation they spread. Lordy lordy, what does it mean when the ignorant spread POLIO in our great land??

We are not anti vax we are anti test subject we have had every other vaccine, don’t blame it on us because you are too naive to see what the government is doing. Monkey pox and now this? But it’s the republican supporters fault. Please lol 🙄
OggggO · 36-40, M
@DeluxedEdition This man caught polio because he wasn't vaccinated against it.
Torsten · 36-40, M
@OggggO and its everyone elses fault for that mans choices?
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@OggggO what does that have to do with republican supporters?
@DeluxedEdition Being anti-vax didn't used to correlate so well with a political party. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., scion of a famously democratic family, is a major anti-vaxxer. Interestingly (see below) Trump is a former anti-vaxxer. But these days anti-vax fervor is much stronger in red areas. I can show you polls and graphs if you're interested. I don't know why or how it got so politicized, but it definitely did.

Trump, vaccines, autism
OggggO · 36-40, M
@DeluxedEdition Republicans have made vaccine opposition a platform position.
gol979 · 41-45, M
@OggggO its vaxxed induced polio
gol979 · 41-45, M
@ElwoodBlues why are you slagging off your orange god. He was the man who brought you "operation warp speed". Roll up for your maga jab, woo hoo
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@OggggO no republicans did not. The Media did.
@gol979 I agree that Op Warp Speed was the right way to spend a few billion. It was valuable insurance. But it turns out it was in no way essential.

Pfizer didn't take a PENNY from Op Warp Speed. Their mRNA vaccine was developed in Germany by a Turkish couple, and they were first to market.

Op Warp Speed funded 5 vaccine attempts, and two made it thru phase 3 trials - J&J and Moderna. They turned out to be a good insurance policy, but by no means essential.

And, lest we forget, the hydroxychloroquine Trump spent months pushing failed in randomized double blind placebo controlled testing.

@DeluxedEdition Tell that to my state legislature.
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@OggggO when I said media I didn’t specify but I mean all forms of propaganda
OggggO · 36-40, M
@DeluxedEdition That's nice. Completely irrelevant, but nice.
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@OggggO it’s “irrelevant” because it doesn’t fit the narrative you want it to ☕️ 🐸
OggggO · 36-40, M
@DeluxedEdition No, it's irrelevant, because the GOP in my state government going mind-bogglingly stupid antivax isn't propaganda, it's a thing that actually happened.
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@OggggO it’s called propaganda. One person not being vaccinated has nothing to do with a bunch of republicans who are vaccinated with every other vaccine but we’re reluctant to take a vaccine whipped up In three months.

The highest percentage of individuals that refuses to get vaccinated are African Americans and African Americans majority vote democrat.

Propaganda wants to make it a political thing to cause left and right to fight so that left and right will be too distracted by fighting with each other that they don’t see the OBVIOUS government corruption. Kinda Like how you are doing right now

We are bought out by our enemies. We have enemies working on the inside trying to destroy this country
@DeluxedEdition
The highest percentage of individuals that refuses to get vaccinated are African Americans
My data says the opposite. My data says the highest percentage of individuals who refuse to get vaccinated identify as republican and live in rural red counties.

My data says 73% of Black Americans are vaccinated while 61% of republicans are vaccinated. My data is below. I would love to see yours. Got a link??

OggggO · 36-40, M
@DeluxedEdition First of all:
https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/health/2021/07/13/tennessee-halts-all-vaccine-outreach-minors-not-just-covid-19/7928701002/
https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2021/07/tennessee-vaccines-michelle-fiscus

Secondly, regarding your claim that it's African Americans and therefore Democrats that make up the majority of antivaxers:
https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/1532673X211022639
https://today.yougov.com/topics/politics/articles-reports/2021/10/13/support-requiring-child-vaccinations

DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@ElwoodBlues @OggggO

Sourced cdc

And again irregardless of those numbers and my opinion that it being deliberately tied to the government manipulation that is my own opinion (and many others) and I respect if you don’t believe it

But you mean to sit there and tell me that that mean and his Individual choice represents an entire population of people (who have other vaccines) but refuse to get the Covid vaccine that have no connections to him whatsoever.

That’s a weird thing to even do why are you blaming your fellow Americans? Everything is always republicans or democrats fault. Why does someone always feel the need to blame someone else and tie it to politics for something irrelevant
@DeluxedEdition Where did you find that bar graph? When was it made? Who published it? What's the date on it?

My graph is marked KFF for Kaiser Family Foundation, and dated Oct 2021. Your graph appears to be way out of data; essentially obsolete data from early in the vaccination period. It's like posting someone's baby picture and saying that's what they look like as an adult.

Sorry, you need to provide data that has a DATE on it if you want it to be taken seriously.
OggggO · 36-40, M
@DeluxedEdition Sourced CDC when? And how much of that has to do with lack of access?
