Anyone else suffer from severe dry eyes?

What do you use to help it?

No drops have ever given me lasting relief. I apply eye drops more than 10 times THROUGHOUT the night, which constantly disrupt my sleep, mood, and life.

I have tried many brands.
I have used the moist heat eye bean bag thing.
I use a sleep mask.

Nothing helps and it's getting to be unbearable

I bought a humidifier a few weeks ago. Table top. If I had known how much it would help I'd have bought it years ago. I don't wake up with eyes pasted shut. I don't sneeze 72 times a day.

I recommend trying it.

@Mamapolo2016 yea that's a good idea. I notice that when I breathe my nasal passage feels dry also. Constantly thirsty too but I drink 80+ oz of water a day. Also have other health issues but I'll try a humidifier. Do you have any special kind?

I'm assuming you are using preservative free eye drops since you are applying so often.

If standard otc drops don't work, compounding pharmacies can make drops that have slightly different formulations than otc drops. I think they can be formulated with different concentrations of non-prescription cellulose gum (Carboxymethylcellulose) that might provide additional relief. Your ophthalmologist can order the proper concentrations to try.

@TrunkZ according to my documentation, (Carboxymethylcellulose) irritates my eyes

@iamnikki OK. There may be other custom formulations that provide relief. Also, they may be able to formulate a custom drop with a prescription medication at a lesser dose that may not cause the side effects you experience to use in conjunction with the other otc drops. I know someone who uses the combination of otc artificial tears and two different compounded drops to get relief. Just another route you may be able explore.

[c=004A59]Same here. I have perpetually dry red eyes (typical of vampires). I can't wear contact lenses. The last time I tried, the lenses stuck like glue and it took me a half hour to get them out again.

The opthamologist just says use over the counter eye drops, but they don't do much for me.[/c]

@iamnikki [c=004A59]I've given up, because the eye drops were making my eyes more irritated. I only use them now if I get allergic conjunctivitis. I'm prone to getting that in the spring.

I don't get much sleep either. It's 1:40 a.m. here. 🥱[/c]
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@SW-User but how do you manage? How is it possible to go all day with irritated eyes and not try to treat it🤔
SW-User
@iamnikki [c=004A59]It was my eye doctor who pointed out to me that my eyes are in pain all the time. I had become accustomed to it somehow. She said it's a sort of syndrome of dry eyes, dry skin, dry hair and arthritis. I do have to stay out of sunlight.[/c]

Nah, but if it's anything like dry air ways, maybe a humidifier might help to make the air less dry
@iamnikki Ir does, and you can. Very simple to operate and if you register it, has a 5 year warranty.

@Mamapolo2016 going to Walmart in the morning. I cannot bear. I feel like I'm going to vomit from lack of sleep.
@iamnikki I bought mine through the website. You might want to check if it's in stock. I really hope it helps you. I'm kind of amazed.

Have you asked your eye doctor for a recommendation or prescription?
HannahSky · F
@iamnikki oh 🤔 yeah I guess they could. I'm not sure if the weather impacts you but would it help if you wore glasses or sunglasses to keep the air / wind out your eyes?
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@HannahSky I've worn glasses all my life. My biggest problem is when trying to sleep
HannahSky · F
@iamnikki that has to be really uncomfortable, not to mention bad for your eyes to be so dry. I can only think of what you've tried already.. I use cold compresses for allergies.

Maybe you need a moisturizing eye gel or even an ointment instead of drops. They seem to have a more intense and lasting effect.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@SW-User yea, I've tried 2 brands of gels, made my eyes feel much more dry the minute the drips hit my eye. Just a continuous cycle if frustration and wasted money
SW-User
@iamnikki Then maybe try an ointment? which is thicker and heavier than gels.
there are drops called "artificial tears"

I have them 4 when that happens to me

Have u bought Blink? It's a bit expensive.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@ScarletWitch of course. No different than something I can get for literally 1 dollar
