My lungs are burning really bad. What should I do?

So a little bit of backstory-

I’m obese (I’m working on it.) I’m 22, 5”1, female, and 250 lbs. (Roughly.) I had Covid over Christmas, and ended up in the ER with trouble breathing. It ended up mostly being anxiety, but they did prescribe me medication and an inhaler. My chest x-ray and other tests came back clear.
Today, there’s a storm, and it is COLD. (About 6 degrees F, felt like -9, with windchills well below zero.) I was helping my dad shovel snow for about an hour. I had about three or four layers on, but my lungs really started hurting. It got better once I got inside and used the inhaler. Now, about six hours later, the burning in my chest is really bad and I can’t take a deep breath. I used my inhaler, and I don’t know what to do. I can take shallow breaths, but that’s about it. I’m scared, it’s dark, and the roads are bad. I don’t want my parents to have to rush me to the hospital or anything because it’s dark and dangerous, especially if it ends up being nothing. Any suggestions?

You are describing it as burning, not sure how accurate that is but it doesn't sound like an emergency without any other symptoms present.

Your best choice at the moment is calling your nurse/doctor.

Meanwhile, rest in bed by alleviating the upper side. See if that helps with the burning. Have warm drinks, don't do intense physical activity until your heart is tested, yoga is fine. And eat healthy, no fatty or sugary foods.

@Miram Yeah, it feels like the burning in your chest that happens if you run in the cold, if that makes any sense at all!

@sabrinarose Call them. And in any case, you need to get your heart function tested not just your lungs post COVID-19.

If both are fine, get tested for gastric issues.

In that order.

@Miram Will do! Thank you!!!

Sounds like a broncho spasm , you need a nebulizer treatment with a steroid and albuterol . A hot steamy shower may help with the burning short term ... breath in as deep as you can , exhale through pursed lips ...to warm, moisten, and expand your lungs

get off the internet and call your local clinic and ask them what you should do. They will talk you through your symptoms and help you make a decision. Good luck!!!

Call a doctor. Might be a cold induced asthma

maybe anxiety again. I, personally, would go on 24 hour fast and see from there. See if its better or worse. But that's for me personally not a suggestion. Definitely need to start getting rid of all that weight
Also I would do deworming. AND DEFINITELY CALL YOUR DOC

Do you have a pulse oximeter? (Checks blood oxygen goes on the end of your finger)

@sabrinarose yeah call an advice line. Do you have an insurance plan?
sabrinarose · 26-30, F
@Doomflower I do!

@sabrinarose call for advice
You need medical attention. This has gone beyond what can be treated at home - either go to the hospital or call an ambulance.
You need to get checked out
pneumonia, you need rest
