I wouldn't end it all because I needed surgery.
I had a friend once who worked in the same office at the homeless shelter where I used to work. The disc in her neck was actually deteriorating, and she needed to have it replaced.
There is a hospital called St. Lukes in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, with a surgeon who specializes in replacing discs in the neck with ceramic discs.
She had the surgery. They went in through the front of her neck with a long vertical incision. Replaced her disc. She had a sore throat for a few weeks afterward, and the incision healed as a faint white line.
I have had a herniated disc in my lower back, and I know how painful it it. They do heal all by themselves in the lower back. It takes about a year, sometimes 2 years if you keep re-injuring the area.
If you are already THIS depressed because you honestly can't believe in the possibility of healing, then you need to go and see a counselor and talk about feeling better.
