So the doctor said I'm prediabetic with high cholesterol, and prescribed Lipitor

...one of the possible side effect of that being the development of type 2 diabetes... 馃馃馃え

avoid sugar and high carb meals(like pasta), exercise at least 30 min a day (maybe get a trainer for a while), follow a weight loss program(if necessary) but with the goal of permanently changing your diet and lifestyle, learn stress management techniques. If you change your lifestyle your blood test results will change and your doctor will get you off the meds. doctors prescribe pills instead of lifestyle changes because they believe there is a higher chance you will take a pill every day than change your lifestyle. prove them wrong.

@reflectingmonkey Yeah, he did say to change to a vegetarian diet and start a moderate workout routine. Vegetarianism isn't a real option, but I'm eating more veggies and fruits and less meat now, and I've switched from chips and sweets to veggies and fruits as snacks (although I'm not above the occasional grape soda, lol). I've also switched from coffee with vanilla creamer to a green tea with ginger, lemon and honey in the mornings. And I drive for a living, but between rides I've started getting out of the car and doing push ups off the bumper or squats beside the door or at least a walk around the area...at least 30 minutes in total, but spread out through the day. Exercising through the work day like that also avoids the need to have a coffee or energy drink, although I do bring more of the green tea/ginger brew with me.

@Zaphod42 sounds pretty good, I don't think being completely vegetarian is necessary but reducing the amount of meat is good for many thing. I would suggest eliminating soft drinks and honey and also fruit juice. its better to eat fruit than to drink fruit juice( because of the fiber) but avoid bananas, mangos (very sweet) and eat grapes in moderation. the problem with sweets, even in moderation, is that it tunes your taste buds to like that level of stimulation and then everything else feels bland. if you completely cut out everything that is sweet then fruit and even beets and carrots will feel plenty sweet. you sound on the right track, good luck, text me if you ever want to discuss this further.
