I think it's much more a double standard as women age. Men are often considered distinguished looking when they begin to go gray. If a woman were to stop dying her hair and wearing make-up, I think a lot of us would look frumpy in society's eyes.

@Peapod I hate that. I refuse to dye my hair. I'm already getting my grays and fully expect to have some glorious silver hair.

@Peapod It's not society, its just natural selection. A person can't help whom they are and aren't attracted to. As men can make children until they die (and women can't), it makes sense from a genetic point of view, that young women continue to find older men attractive. Equally it makes sense that older men continue to find young women attractive if not more attractive.

@WanderLustChick, I admit to being one of those that religiously dyes their hair. In my case, I have very thin, fine hair, so letting it just go all gray would really make me look haggarded in my own eyes. I started going gray very young too, so the habit is an old one.

I do think women with beautiful hair to begin with, DO look gorgeous letting it go gray, especially if it is nicely styled.

@Gumba1000, can't say I disagree with you on that. It just sucks sometimes being a woman, trying to not care about the pressures of society. I know I am very self conscious now as I always been. It's just ingrained in me.

@Peapod It's good that you are self conscious. It's far better to care about one's looks and make an effort, than to not care at all and look shabby.

Nice name by the way.
@Gumba1000 By that reasoning, since girls can become pregnant starting at age 13, older men who prey on them are justified, too. Except in most enlightened societies now, laws attempt to protect young girls from such predators.

@Gumba1000, I do like to look my best, regardless of age. There is something to be said about feeling good about putting in the effort. I never thought age was a good excuse to not take care of myself. Yeh, I don't have much control over wrinkles and things like that, but I can do a lot with other things.

Thank-you! It's been my handle for a decade now. 😊

@bijouxbroussard uuugh...yeh...good point too.

@bijouxbroussard Rules and laws are a social construct. Western society and laws used to permit marriage and all the trimmings that go with it, from childhood. But the societies changed to become what we are now. Genetics doesn't follow social constructs.
