Best ideas for getting in shape?

I finally decided to get off my ass and try to lose a little weight, get more in shape. I am starting with simple like increasing steps... did 17,000 today! Calorie counting is obvious but painful. What motivates you?

Well, I can give you some kick ass exercise strategies, but most of mine are actually geared towards weight gain, in the form of muscle. I'm not looking to lose weight or get thinner. I'm already naturally too skinny. But I know that cardio is the best for losing weight. Running is excellent, biking might be even better. Get yourself a bicycle and ride it all over the place, you'll lose a decent amount of weight.

@Bazingaa It's harder to gain weight in muscle. But muscle weighs a lot more than fat does.

@Bazingaa Repetition is the key. If you can dedicate yourself to exercising regularly, over periods of time, that is when you see the best results.
