As per an old post - i really love the extra things men do to look after themselves

Someone mentioned that staying in shape was enough.... which is true i suppose. In fact id agree its the most important of all.

However.....

Im all down for men moisturizing and trimming or shaving. For skin routines, (and even waxing if they want🤷‍♀)
For beard maintenance and oiling.
For trim nails and softer skin.

I dont feel any of this takes away from a mans 'masculinity'.
Conversely, It can add to it.

Theres even a place for the exotic smells of cologne and the smell of fresh laundered cotton.
(Although im a sucker for a natural scent when its intimate)

Whats wrong with a silky soft beard, or smooth skin to caress?
What's wrong with some self care and some sunblock?

Why is there this kickback that, as a man, its "not macho" to look after your exterior as well?

I don't get it.

A well groomed man is something to behold. And im not implying one of these metrosexual sterotypes with a man bun and vegan sandals.

I man can be in hi viz and a hard hat.... and its still evident he looks after himself.

As a practitioner of self care I totally agree. Masculinity, femininity and sex appeal is in the mind and the better one feels about themselves the more confidence they have. So yes, all the above mentioned is normal routine for me.
@SageWanderer i like what you said about it being in the mind.

It truly is.

Not the ego mind, but the self love/respect mind.

Which isnt an easy thing to achieve.
The more i delve into self care and stuff....its like sifting thru debris. There's a lot of things listed as self care.... but they're more ego based.

Finding true, basic, self care things is harder than i thought.

And its amazing how many of us dont know what they are.

@OogieBoogie After being a caretaker for a number of years the most difficult thing about self care is not feeling selfish about it.
@SageWanderer geeZ, you got that right !

It feels....alien. And awkward.

@OogieBoogie It is like any other ritual it takes practice and some inward searching to know your needs. This helped me.
@SageWanderer oooh.... that looks flipping handy !

Nice👌

@SageWanderer I endorse that book. Why not take care of oneself?
