do you know of anyone who's 'invalid' and incapable of taking care of themselves

that is my worst fear, becoming an invalid by disease and left on my own unable to take care of myself.

i live alone now and my only support are my two elderly parents who live far away.

I know of your concerns. You've posted about them before. Yes, I DO know someone who is an invalid.

He has stage 3 inoperable lung cancer, and his left lung constantly fills up with fluid and has to be drained every 3 days. He has constant problems with his bladder and with infections, has to use a catheter to pee, and loses his balance easily. His eyesight is going, and he really can't drive except during the day, and has to stay local.

Fortunately, he has wonderful health insurance, three good friends, and a community with services to help him.

He now has a visiting nurse and physical therapist in to see him once a week. The food pantry at the church in the town where he lives actually delivers food to him once a month, I volunteered to drive him to all his doctor's appointments and I also deliver food to him once a week.

With NIH, and carers, and, perhaps with your local church, I don't think you have anything to fear.
