Grumble grumble about SW age categories

This is probably just silly vanity but I resent that SW has me in the "61-69" age category. I am not yet 65, which is the traditional age of retirement and being officially a "senior citizen" around here. I feel like there is a big different between me, practically still in my 50s, and someone aged 69 who is almost seventy!

Anyone else perturbed by being lumped together with "much" older (or younger) people here? :)
Patientlywaiting46-50, FVIP
My husband says you are only as old as the woman you feel lol. I am 45 and he is 65 馃槀 How old is your Goddess?
Patientlywaiting46-50, FVIP
@bijouxbroussard You make nasty comments and then you refuse to explain the reasons why you make them. Maybe you should work harder to develop some interpersonal skills, compassion and consideration for others. You don't know me. You don't know my journey and you don't know how I will feel or what I might do after you make your horrible comments and it's likely you won't care until one day you will be forced to learn the hard way.
@Patientlywaiting I said the comment "you鈥檙e as young as the woman you feel" is sexist because, imo, it reduces the woman to an object to make a man feel younger (which is a slap at age).
And I think that鈥檚 so when anyone says it. It鈥檚 nothing personal against you or him, for that matter. Threatening me
one day you will be forced to learn the hard way.
is an overreaction and says much more about you, to be honest.

Don鈥檛 allow a number to categorize you!

Oh. My. Gosh!!!!

I'm with you!

When I first got dropped into the 22-25 I was so upset! Then when I got lumped in with people 30 I freaked!

@KiwiBird Happy belated birthday. I'm sorry I didn't notice. You're like my forever friend on here, but I should make note of the passing of years. Sorry about that. 馃様

@sarabee1995 The years do pass.....

The AARP starts bombarding you with membership crap when you turn 50. Evidently they think you are a senior citizen at that ripe old age. Relax, enjoy it. The alternative to getting older is an even worse option.
ServantOfTheGoddess61-69, M
@bowman81 That is a good reminder!
But in fact I don't mind being the age I am and I won't mind it when I turn 70 either. I am more concerned about other people's assumptions, I think.
ElwoodBluesM
@bowman81 When our son was five years old, he got some kind of flyer from AARP. When we explained what the organization was, he wondered if it meant he didn't have to get a job and could retire immediately馃槅
Maturebate70-79, M
Don't let a number define you! Anyway, you could always lie about your age! LOL
ServantOfTheGoddess61-69, M
@Maturebate Well I do have the option of not showing my age category here. But I feel like some younger people consciously don't want to get too familiar with older people and that is a legitimate choice, so I should be fair to them...
FluffybullF
You don't have to show an age.
ServantOfTheGoddess61-69, M
@Fluffybull True but I feel like it does matter to some people, and they might feel tricked if they made the wrong guess at my age. I admire that you don't feel you have to show yours, though.
SW-User
Lol maybe they should use a 5-year increment
SW-User
Haha yeah the message there can't be anything but "to hell with the 60s crowd they are all old anyways" @ServantOfTheGoddess
ServantOfTheGoddess61-69, M
@SW-User well yeah that is how I feel about it 馃ぃ

You'll get used to it
When I turned 31 I was like it's damn unfair that I'm lumped together with 35 year olds
now at 33 it feels perfectly ok lol @ServantOfTheGoddess
I do not think we need age categories here once we reach 40. Keep it for the younger ones. In case we need to eliminate them. Ha.

My first experience of ageism was at Brighton, England when I was forty eight. I was pushed off the pavement by a group of students. Typical Brighton though, claims to be diversive, but a seedy sham.

Ageism at work can be subtle. But it is there. I knew I would be in for a rough ride at 55, and I was.

When I was sixty one I bought new suits, I told my second in department they would last four years. You should have seen his face drop!

Mick Jagger is 78, but then again he was old in the sixties.
You don鈥檛 have to post your age at all, so it needn鈥檛 be an issue. I鈥檓 not ashamed of my age, but I tired of it becoming an easy striking point when someone disagreed with something I鈥檇 said.
ServantOfTheGoddess61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard I hear you! Age is about the last thing that progressive people feel it is OK to be prejudiced about...
@ServantOfTheGoddess Especially for women, alas. Senior men are still valued a bit more.
ElwoodBluesM
So you are sixty four.

That's a square, a cube, and a Beatle's song! Congratulations!!!

For myself, I never put an age in my profile, but I am also comfortably past the two billion seconds mark.
ServantOfTheGoddess61-69, M
@ElwoodBlues I am not in fact 64 yet either but those are good reminders for when I get there :D
hunkalove61-69, M
I told myself when I turned 70 I would be too old for this place and I would leave. Instead I just lie about my age. You can change your age to anything you want.
ServantOfTheGoddess61-69, M
@hunkalove how often do you change yours? :)
hunkalove61-69, M
@ServantOfTheGoddess just the once, three years ago.
SumKindaMunster51-55, M
Nope! I love being old and distinguishing myself from the kids these days....
ServantOfTheGoddess61-69, M
@SumKindaMunster Yeah but you get to be in the very specific "51-55" age category! Bet you wouldn't like being labelled "51-59" 馃槢 (or maybe you would be fine with that like a sensible mature person :) )
SumKindaMunster51-55, M
@ServantOfTheGoddess Maybe...I dunno. I stopped caring about getting older somewhere in my 40's. I like being old in a lot of ways...I have wisdom, experience, perspective, way WAY more patience and a much longer view of life.

The only downside is the physical aspects...wish I had the energy and vigor of my youth, but other than that I like being an old fart....馃槅
ServantOfTheGoddess61-69, M
@SumKindaMunster ikr about the physical aspects! If I had been properly warned about that I would have made sure to have way more fun with my body when it was younger!!
NotSureAboutMyUserName31-35, M
I don't care much about that.

Also I thought 60 is the age for retirement.
FluffybullF
@NotSureAboutMyUserName It's 67 or 68 in the UK (They keep putting it up).
ServantOfTheGoddess61-69, M
@NotSureAboutMyUserName That would be nice :) (except I like my work!)
RedBaronM
Why spend time and energy on something over which you have no control? Don鈥檛 worry what others think.
HannahSkyF
You're how old?
HannahSkyF
@ServantOfTheGoddess oh, and you wish it was 55-63 or something like that?
ServantOfTheGoddess61-69, M
@HannahSky I'd be okay with the 5 year increments that younger ages get on here, like 60-65.

If it went by how old I actually feel, the age range would be 24-94 depending on the day 馃槀
HannahSkyF
@ServantOfTheGoddess make a suggestion to admin
Donotfolowme51-55, F
Practically?
ServantOfTheGoddess61-69, M
@Donotfolowme "Practically" in the sense of "almost" or "just about". Also, in practice I don't feel any different from age 59, or younger! If anything, I feel stronger and freer now.
iamonfire69641-45, F
I am not sure why they do that.

Don鈥檛 worry, it鈥檚 doesn鈥檛 matter.
