Must be really hard to be an elder that depends on others too much 😔

To have your medication.. To be reminded to take it.
To be showered by others .. Etc.

Must be really tough.

Being human isn't easy. I think we forget about our weaknesses, our bodies etc.
Sometimes pain reminds us that we're fragile. At any age but more when you're elder. Or have health conditions.

It's so very sad.
Medicine can keep them alive but can never give them a quality of life that they need.
I do not ever want to see that happen to me. I'd rather not live than live that way.
SW-User
@SW-User You've got to be really strong willed and brave to go through something like that, having your dignity stripped from you, reliant on other people and so on.
I don't think I am that brave. I hope to make the most of every little time I have in the meantime.
And oh.. lol.... I am crazy healthy so I hope that can buy me a lot of time with people I love. 😂 I do a lot to take care of my health. I hope you do the same.
SW-User
@SW-User yes, with my personality, being so dependant on others would truly be something I wouldn't be able to to take. So let's we stay ok considering everything.
And just live day by day 🥰🥰 we don't know anything else.

My worst fear is that. Or not even from getting old, like I'm afraid of certain illnesses that could cause me to depend on others too much. The best privilege of being healthy is being independent.
SW-User
@HannibalAteMeOut yes definitely it's a privilege. I guess one can just live one day at a time.
But yeah it feels we take life for granted.
People can be very arrogant.
It IS hard.

My mother used to work in the geratric ward, and she said it was so sad.
People had to give up their dignity. People who had worked hard all their life , done so much , were strong and independent....and now were frail.

She said you could see how it destroyed their souls.
Some patients just closed in on themselves and wished for death .
SW-User
@OogieBoogie yeah, I can see that and understand well.
Specially if other sad feelings are involved and you're dealing with abandonment of your loved ones, or mourning.
I have lots of respect for them.
But reminds me of our fragility.

My Mum is growing older, very capable, but I catch slips in memory, here and there. I try to be conscious of them, but also respect her ability, as I want her to have it as long as possible - and she is quite healthy. It's a delicate balance.
SW-User
@SW-User yeah memory can be tricky but I'm glad she's well.
SW-User
@SW-User Yes, thank you. Her mother, my grandmother, lived quite well on her own into her 80s, had a remarkable ability even in her 90s to make sense, though gone in her ability to remember anything. So, I'm hoping my concern is not something to be concerned about.
SW-User
It is sad, and very hard. I watch as my mother gets older, and thank god daily she is fit and healthy. I cannot imagine how sad i would be to watch her unable to do the things she loves some day.

@SW-User very tough for everyone
SW-User
It’s really hard to witness . I’ve been visiting long term care homes for the past several years to visit loved ones .
🙁
SW-User
@SW-User worse to live it yourself surely
SW-User
It’s something I hope I never have to go through myself . 🙁 @SW-User

My dad doesn't take to it so well. He rebels against me like a child.
