Is anyone here familiar with Citralopam
Just started a new treatment and the side effects are really hard to manage on top of everything else … just wondering if it is all worth the troubles

I’m not familiar with that, but I took something meant for joint and nerve pain that I believe is mainly used for what the med you mentioned is. I also have a friend who took it and was talking suicidal when she had just recently stopped- given that and my severe reaction weaning off I try to warn people about it. There was also a large class action suit b/c of many issues w/weaning off it as told- Cymbalta. I wouldn’t recommend it to an enemy. I think any of those types of meds can do that if stopped w/out properly weaning off.
@MellyMel22 i took cymbalta and it was life saving. I had to stop after 6 years because it was discontinued and switch to effexor. Withdrawal syndrome is not unique to that medication,its a common side effect for ssris and snris . Unfortunately lack of knowledge and awareness by users and medical staff to help with proper tapering when discontinuing can lead to extreme cases like that. Suicidal thoughtd as a side effect is also unfortunately something that can happen with most ssris and snris if not all as far as im aware which is why they have a black box warning. However it is rare and most commonly seen amongst teens. Lets not demonize something that can be helpful and has been helpful to many

@PepsiColaP I’m sharing what I wish someone would’ve shared with me. And I shared that with you as well very long ago on a post of yours. People should be aware. My friend was suicidal because of that and had no idea until I shared that with her why. I was part of that class action suit, so I do know plenty about it and it was huge. That medication shocked my system so bad it caused my trigeminal neuralgia and that’s something I’ve had to live with since my 20s and will for the rest of my life. I wasn’t the only one that happened to. I was also in and out of medical facilities because I was having stroke symptoms because of it. Something that may work for you, may not work for someone else and I’m well aware that something that doesn’t work for me can work for someone else, but I chose to share and warn others the way I wish somebody would’ve for me. I don’t want anyone to suffer the way I did or MANY other people have.
I didn’t share this, but another friend, who was on that ran in front of a Mac truck- she was never suicidal until that day. She was 28. And while I was going through the horrible withdrawal I felt an incredible darkness in me that I can’t explain, between the pain that I was in and the withdrawal confusing my mind. So I know what that medication can do to people’s minds.
And considering that entire medication’s class action suit was based on the withdrawals, I’d say it was clear it was true.

Yes,im not on it though. have been on other ssris like sertraline and fluoxetine and i did not enjoy the side effects either. Then i switched to snris which were life saving but the side effects were also intense ,if not more in my experience,and still are especially when missing or delaying doses etc considering im a chronic user. Depending on the severity i would say if manageable try to be patient and find ways to mitigate them until your body stabilizes,which should happen over the next few days/weeks. Definitely bring it up with your physician who prescribed them in the meantime. Hope you stay well and see some relief
@Julien yeah i remember i had that with sertraline so i switched tbh. I can deal with excessive sweating,intense dreaming,decreased libido, fatigue etc but i couldnt deal with irritability. If a side effect is too much for you advocate for yourself. Theres many alternatives out there and its important you find what works best for you

hey ive been taking it for 6 years now it has never brought me that many issues that i remember it just gets you really sleepy so it mostly depends on what time you take it i personally just take it at night to avoid feeling sleepy for the whole day also please avoid reading the side effects it usually just leads to you having all of them

An SSRI used for depression. Probably other things to I would imagine. I have a relative with depression. Ive suggested this

That family of drugs ( SSRI) are ugly ( side effect wise) and dangerous . If that is the best your GP can do , perhaps you should consider a psychiatrist … the expert in brain chemistry and treatment of depression.
