Any positive thoughts welcome

My sister has had horrible diabetic neuropathy the past two years, getting worse daily. Her diabetes has been so labile she could never get it to a normal range. Just a tiny amount of insulin can make her sugars shoot RAPIDLY down, it's abnormal, and no doctor can say what's causing it. So she's felt utterly helpless trying to get ANY help for this or treatment. Her feet are numb daily now, coupled with searing burning pain. No meds help. And others in her neuropathy forum agree, nothing helps them, ever. This Condition is just awful.

And tonight my heart broke even MORE than it does everyday. I was about to go into a grocery store we both enjoy, Trader Joe's. She's typically at home while I get some groceries. But tonight she was with me because we had just gone to a doctor appointment for the edema pooling in her feet. She rarely expresses this verbally but as I went to go in, (she can barely walk so she waits in the car)she said in a sad, despondent tone "I wish I could go in and walk with you". 🥺My heart literally BROKE ...I said "I know, let's hope if you can find treatment, it can ease up even a bit and you can". I just feel so helpless, and she doesn't deserve this affliction.
Please send out any positive thoughts if possible 😢🌺

So sorry.

Can she get a scooter?

When I was using a walker (post-surgery), my parents were helping me, and taking me shopping. They take forever so it was hard to walk around with them for that long.

Many supermarkets have benches, even comfy coffee lounges with Starbucks and deep leather chairs, so often I would just wait there.

But a few had no benches or chairs, but had a scooter and I would sit there. Not very comfortable. I did not try and use it, though, since it was not necessary for me to be with my parents as they bought food. They were cooking so they got what they wanted. I ate whatever they cooked. Except peas.

For a time I wondered if I would need a scooter someday, or have to always use a walker.

But my leg strength returned and I could walk free again, but poorly. Yet now I can occasionally walk on grassy hillocks in parks, too!

But diabetes has made my feet numb over the past decade, and it got bad around the time of my surgery (for other reasons). It has gotten better, as my body healed and I got my sugars down. But my toes are still numb, and sometimes my feet. My left foot is worse. I hope I do not lose a left toe before I die.

I wish you hope.

@JoyfulSilence So glad yours diminished a bit. Hers is so bad she can barely walk but I'll definitely tell her about the scooter idea..

@Coralmist

I hope insurance would cover it.

I think most supermarkets have them.
Is she type 1 or type ?

Type 1 usually has to pre bolus insulin for meals....could she like, pre bolus carbs before taking insulin to balance it out?
Does she use a CGM?
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@Pikachu she's type 1 yes. . She does have a CGM. Pre bolus, you mean take some right before a meal , instead of after?
@Coralmist

Yeah. Like usually we want to take insulin before a meal to try and control the rise in sugar. Is she only taking insulin after a meal? How long after?

Abba as I come before you in prayer I pray for the one known as Ms Coralmist's sister, your child.

I Bind the spirit of infirmities according to Matthew 18:18 and loose the spirit of Healing.
We choose to uproot every root from our lives and plant the seeds of the Word that keeps us free.
In Jesus's mighty name I pray.
Amen

Maybe she can get a compact mobile scooter to accompany you to public places or go on walks with you
