Need opinion...would you go on this medication?

So for many years I've had white coat syndrome, where because you fear your blood pressure might be high you get SO nervous, that it goes really high while being checked. I can only get an accurate reading when my doctor does not tell me or announce she's going to check it. Then I really don't realize what she's doing till the end, because we are chatting a lot. It's normal at rest, without anxiety.

So she knows that I get anxious on other occasions outside of the office, in traffic, etc my blood pressure does probably go up during those times, a few times a week. But, it goes back down to normal in a couple minutes. She wants to put me on a blood pressure medicine, to be preventative, so that down the line, my heart is protected and that the vessels aren't harmed over time. But my pressure is normal. It's only a few times a week it goes up for a miniscule time. I've read that anxiety does NOT HARM THE BODY. My therapist even thought it's a bit much to go on a med if it's not ACTUALLY regularly high.
I'm afraid of it now going low if I went on it. Would you go on it? It's a low dose, but still 🤔🙁

Thank you for posting this! Ive had very similar experience but end up not going to a doctor at all! Hah...the last time I went to a walk in clinic for a really bad sore throat was 2015.
Anywho, my dad has the white coat too and they put them on a BP medication and the trouble he had was once he was relaxed his BP would go too low! They didn't believe him and made him wear an at home 24/7 monitor until it proved what he was saying. So the amount of medication make a difference.
One question ive had, but not tried to find answers for yet is is there a BP medication that helps regulate BP without lowering it?
Once on a bp medication it dose tend to make people more tired, even have colder hands and feet.
Im sure there are foods that can naturally lower/regulate BP? What about grapefruit? Most of those taking bp meds are told to not touch grapefruit..mmm

@Alisha233 Was he on the lowest dose? He must've needed a lower dose, ugh. For me it's just those intermittent times it goes up she's concerned about, so it's really a preventative measure, but if I don't truly need it, I don't want to take it. I guess I can ask for lowest dose possible. She prescribed 5 mg but lowest is 2.5 I believe.
Do you have fear of doctors overall or just blood pressure check?
