Yes, the initial sticker price for medical service is always a shock.

Then you later get the insurance statement, where the insurance pays the negotiated price of about 1/3 the sticker price, and you are left with a relatively small co-payment.

I imagine the original sticker price is what the medical gougers would try to hit you with if you didn't have insurance. 🙄

@Thinkerbell

Hospital's original demands are like the initial figure an attorney sues for. They can't raise it later so they come up a most outrageous worst case scenario, knowing they'll work down from there

I had a brief period without insurance. I find if you speak with the doctor himself he'll, at the least, cut it in half. The assistants and secretaries can be Nazis.

Except with minor bills, I don't think anyone pays full price (can be like car shopping 😁 )

Yep. $27 K for 18 hours for me about 6 months ago. Insurance got all but $600

@sarabee1995 probably close to a million.

Any residual issues?

@TexChik Residual issues? Hmmm... How about a new superpower predicting the weather? 😉

Yeah, my shoulder sometimes aches, but not bad. Everything else is totally fine. 🙂

Mine was over 100,000. I paid like $900 out of pocket, maybe less.

@samueltyler2 get universal healthcare and the best will choose other professions
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@saragoodtimes we will have to agree to disagree, that is not the case in countries that have universal care.
