Hemp, specifically Cannabis Rhudderalis Kentucki( the native species of hemp to north America) was used to produce light petroleum (gasoline) until it was demonized and illegalized in 1938. The Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 ignored completely that the original Constiution and Declartion of Independance were written on HEMP PAPER of that species.
An acre of that species was processed to produce 300 barrells of oil; until it was made illegal.
