DOES DEPRESSION REALLY EXIST OR DO U MANIFEST IT BY BELIEVING IN IT ???

Depression really exists. It has a measurable biochemical basis. Changes in levels of serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine are associated with depression. The fact that it has a biochemical basis explains why it can be successfully treated with pharmaceuticals.

@bijouxbroussard I know! Psychiatry and medicine were filled with all sorts of horrors!
@ElwoodBlues Thanks for clarifying, appreciate it, it's really hard to know without a large volume of scientific data. Idk about you guys but I'm questioning data a lot these days (same with recorded history), it's so hard to know what is really true and what isn't. When there is financial motive and the possibility of deception, you have to wonder.

I've studied a lot of science in university, I absolutely love the scientific method. There is no disputing that science has brought great things to the world but I question anything that allowed to be questioned and is fiercely protected.
@ElwoodBlues EDIT: without* a large volume of data. 😂 Damn typos/fingers/brain.

It exists, but it's largely thought to be situational now and less genetic or brain wiring. Over and over, when you improve a person's conditions and options, then they shift their worldview, depression resolves on its own. Depression appears to be a reaction to a situation rather than the situation itself.

This is a broad, broad explanation and each case should be properly evaluated.

I couldn’t put it better myself.@Graylight

@Graylight brilliant! Well said

Clinical depression is a physical ailment, involving neurons and underproduction of chemicals in the brain.

Granted, we often use the word "depressed" to mean things far less serious, but clinical depression is quite real. My wife suffers from it.

@Graylight Thank you. She does take her medications regularly, and she does other things that help. In winter she uses a lightbox, and she takes one hour every day to lie down and meditate.

She has been dealing with this for 34 years, and by now she understands it.

@DrWatson Very well explained.
Clinical depression is absolutely a whole different thing.

@Fertilization Thank you.

A child doesn't know how to manifest beliefs, nor do they understand depression. I've had both anxiety and depression since childhood; it was terribly frightening. I just wasn't aware of what I was feeling until later in life.
They were passed down by genetics. It exists!

Yes it exists. I hate it
duckduckbooze · 46-50, F
It's a chemical imbalance in the brain, so, yes it does exist.

It's a real thing ..
There have been studies that present this

Yeah

It does

I think so, I've always believed that no matter how bad things are there's always something to look forward to and being depressed means you've given up.
MoonlightLullaby · 41-45, F
@spice1 You can still be grateful and have aspirations with depression. Depression is a condition that has nothing to do with giving up....
We actually have more strength than the average person because we fight for happiness despite our condition.
It really exists. In some cases there’s a biological component to it.
