I don't have a partner, but I have a wife

@Midlifemale How is your wife not your partner?

@Saage How is the word partner related to family orientation ?
We have friends, boyfriend, girlfriend, husband and wife.
I did have a business partner once. She weren't part of my family ..just business related.

@Midlifemale When I look it up I get this:

1. Either of a pair of people engaged together in the same activity.
"arrange the children in pairs so that each person has a partner"

2. Either member of a married couple or of an established unmarried couple.
"she lived with her partner"

I thought "partner" was always used to refer any kind of two people bound together by something, whether it's a business partner, life partner, or even partner in crime. (=

Perhaps it's somewhat new that we refer to our significant others as life partners?

@Saage I think the problem is that @Midlifemale is a bit homophobic.

@LordShadowfire Oh. 👀

Sorry for laughing, I just really didn't see that twist coming. 😅 🫣
@Midlifemale Same thing...
Midlifemale · 61-69, M
@HootyTheNightOwl not really. The term partner started when the LGBTQ community had boyfriends and girlfriends that didn't want to be called either...because they was just weird or transgender.
So to distinguish whether male or female...boyfriend or girlfriend should be used
Saage · F
@Midlifemale The term partner existed long before the LGBT community. 😬

I was just wondering when "life partner" became a saying, but I know it's not that new.

I think you pretty much confirmed that you're just talking about your homophobia, and not actually interested in language, so this conversation is over for me. I love all kinds of people. 🩷 🌷
@Midlifemale "Partner" in itself is an umbrella term, often used to cover all bases. You have a wife... she is your wife and your PARTNER. There's no need to be splitting hairs when it's a simple question that you clearly understood and could easily have answered without help to understand.
