I get a static shock so often in my home, that I have developed a habit

Static shock is the state mascot, or at least it was when I was there.

I find with my rubbery house sandals on I get shocked to the point where I can see the spark. Without my sandals on I am ok. Something to do with being grounded.

if you can use the back of your hand or your elbow you might not get as sharp a sting.

I got similair issues.

The air is too dry. A humidifier can help a bit.

Get some antistatic spray
