What goes on at sleepover stays at sleepover . .

Daughter went to her friend's 14th birthday sleepover last night. When I dropped her off her friend's dad looked pale and worried at the sudden arrival of 12 teenage girls 😅 I can't get much out of her about what they got up to, but I'm certain there was not too much sleeping . . she's been a bit crochety and is having a little nap right now.

She has acquired some awesome painted nails though. I am most jealous 😊

I bet they were all on their phones.

A modern get-together.

You will probably find them dancing on Tik Tok.

@JoyfulSilence There was dancing for sure, but actually most of those girls are pretty sensible about what they share. My daughter does not even have a smartphone 🙂

I can't imagine growing up with a phone. We didn't even have a computer. But we had Atari and Nintendo.

Maybe having Google and YouTube lectures would have been a good tool, yet it likely would have been a distraction as I devolved into games and entertainment. I probably would not have read books!

Yet social media might have helped. I was a shy kid, but social media later in life opened me up. Yet I still have no "real" friends. I go through "real life" alone. Except for parents and coworkers. But I have worked from home since the pandemic, so most days my only human contact is from restaurant servers!

@JoyfulSilence I had a walkman! I like the potential for education (although the reality is somewhat different). I have string reservations about social media. My girl fortunately has shown no interest in it thus far.

Last year I got a new cable TV box which allows me to stream YouTube. I keep watching lectures by professors and scientists from the comfort of my living room lounge chair.

As well as bikini try on hauls and game-play videos. 🤪

@JoyfulSilence I find youtube very addictive too (I got an Amazon firestick to convert my non-smart TV).

Gresham College make most of their lectures available free of charge on youtube (and no adverts either). I won't comment on what else I view, but the gymnastics/judo/dance bias to the feed is mainly due to my daughter 😅

@SunshineGirl I watch most of my TV via my Firestick.

@ArtieKat It's fantastic value for money . . more TV available for free than I could ever watch in a lifetime.

@SunshineGirl Yes, absolutely

I endure the YouTube ads because often after a few seconds I can skip them.
