The warning is necessary to avoid dumbf**ks sueing the establishment where they bought their hot drink. If it wasn't hot they would be complaining. It has happened.

I made some earl grey tea. I put it in an R2D2 tumbler I had at the time. I was at my first stop and grabbed it by the kid. The cup fell straight into my lap. At first it wasn’t bad… I was wearing jeans. And then the searing pain began. Absolutely miserable pain.
@Unhinged I’ve sat in my recliner chair at night watching tv with a cup of hot tea in my hands on my lap and tipped it over when I dozed off, was cooled off enough not to burn bad but still.
