Anno Domini 2026. And the years beyond.

As 2025 draws to its close, have you pondered the changes happening in the world?

Today it struck me: a degree in medicine may one day be useless. Did you ever imagine a world where this could happen?

No machine will ever replace the bedside physician.

I can't respond to those below, robotic surgery used a robot but a physician operates it. Physicians in UCUs care for patients.

In what way might it be useless?
lailaayelet · 26-30, F
@SunshineGirl Useless is hyperbole for effect. Yet, medicine no longer has the prestige it once has. It no longer commands the respect it once did. Yes, you will need a degree in order for health care bodies to avoid lawsuits, but the physician is going to be diminished by AI, made less by AI. It could humble or it could displace.

What will you do when AI takes over? They say people will continue to need one another for comfort and stuff.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@lailaayelet AI will never be able to perform surgery, dress wounds, or master human psychology to persuade people to take better care of themselves . .

@SunshineGirl It is the nurse who dresses wounds. They are there to do the dirty work. And the health care assistants, the dirtier work. I am no longer sure what the point of nurses is when the health care assistants do what they used to. Nurses are trying to play doctor.

Robots can do surgery. Are you great when robots can do it for you? They may need the human mind, but they don't need the human hand. Once they know well the human mind, they won't need it either.
