If you set up your account preferences carefully, you can block a lot of the trash from communicating with you.

Set your PM so that no one can message you unless you message them first. They will still swarm you, but it will all be on your whiteboard, which is public. They can't sneak too much nasty stuff onto a public whiteboard.

I got tricked into a PM communication just the other day. I thought I was helping a kid who needed help from a teacher. I had planned to introduce him to two or three teachers on this site. Turns out he was a warped sicko, and it wasn't about that at all. So now he's blocked.
