why dont people open gifts?

If you mean gifts on here, people tend to be more receptive to gifts from people that they have already established communication with. There are so many people on here wanting to make contact for the wrong reasons. Opening random gifts from just anybody is a bit like accepting candy from a stranger in the street.

someone hurt me terribly and then that person's friend acted like they could "fix" it by sticking me with a big phony present and I refused to open it and never again will share "gifts"

GUILT EDGED GIVING IS MORE TOXIC THAN A NIGHT AT THEIR HOUSE.

They just simply don't know you most often.

Must mention they might even delete that gift. ESPECIALLY if they don't know you. You don't have to open a gift to delete it.
