I had some sausage the other night. 😳

That’s not an innuendo, an actual sausage. I’ve been vegetarian for about three years now, but I’m suddenly wondering if it’s worth the effort. I didn’t do it for moral reasons, just because I had an injury and couldn’t go for my morning runs, so I wanted to do something else healthy. But I don’t really need to do it anymore. 🤷‍♀️ Maybe I’ll go back to being an omnivore.

💡Being vegetarian is always healthy....our digestive system is very complex in compare to other carnivorous or ominivours animals because all carnivorous and omnivorous have simple digestive system, there is the reason... sometimes meat or non vegetarian food can have infectious microbes which may have been present in animal who got slaughtered and these microbes can cause food poisioning or certain disease or allergies to animals who eats it..so as fast as those infectious food passed out of body it decreases chances of infection to animals...
But there is more chances of infection in humans as in human intestine infectious food will take long to get out of our body as human intestine is itself 6 m long so our digestive system is more complex and compact ,long intestine plays major role in nutrients absorption,as food goes through long path so absorption is done so nicely!
So if food will be simple then there will be less burden on our digestive system and easily body can manage all absorption and excretory process!

How did your stomach react? I know someone who was vegetarian, and she eventually decided that she would be flexible about that, so as not to inconvenience people who invited her to dinner. Her very first taste of meat after many years was a sausage, and she got really sick afterwards.

@DrWatson I didn’t do as bad as I thought. But I went in knowing my digestive system would need to adjust.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@Straylight I would have started with some extra lean hamburger!

Our digestive systems were designed to assimilate nutrients from animal proteins. While you can survive as a vegetarian many studies contend that the long term effect of a vegan diet is a 3-5 year shorter life span than people who also eat red meat.

I'm not sure I could survive as a vegetarian.

@KiwiBird I'm not so organized in my meal planning, but if a salad for lunch counts as a vegetarian meal, I have a few every week. My dinners pretty much always include a protein... either seafood or poultry 90+ percent of the time. Red meat is the exception for me and usually only on more formal occasions.

I like sausage every now and then. Nice taste but I don't want to overdo it. I can have a nice burger any day tho

I have been a vegetarian (and off/on vegan) for over 20 years. I occasionally eat dairy and I do still eat eggs and fish. But no beef, pork, poultry, or game.

I did it initially for health reasons (I stayed with some vegan friends for 2 weeks, ate what they ate, and felt fucking AMAZING at the end of my stay). But now my reasons are more about the ethics. I don't need to consume those animals to survive, I'm doing just fine as I am.
😱😱😱That poor pig...

... Welcome back to the dark side 😈😈😈

Personally I like the paleo diet which I think is the most healthy as it’s closer to our original diet as humans. I actually tried to be a vegetarian for a year or two during elementary school. But yeah you could just cut back on eating meat 🥩 where you’re still not eating as much as the average person

nacnud · 31-35, M
I'm the opposite increasingly looking at having more veggie based meals.
