Oh god no! Private messages are for friends; for people with whom you've developed a relationship and some modicum of trust. They are not for random strangers.

I've made the analogy ever since the EP days that a PM from a stranger is like a stranger in a bar coming up to you and asking if he can chat with you in the dark back corner. Hell no! You wanna talk to me? Then sit up here at the bar with the lights over head and the people all around. Private chats are for people who've built that trust.

I respond to everything... Though I might cut the conversation short if it becomes unsavoury.

Well with the three folk I regularly exchange PMs with on here there would have been a first message sometime!In two of those cases it was on R2T first but we had had quite a bit of interaction on the forum first.And I always respond to them as they do to me.

But anyone who sends me a first time message gets to see that if we have not had any interaction they may not get a response.I like to know something about folk who message me,And some have nothing on their about me.Which does not make me likely to respond.I need to have some idea of what we could chat about..

I don't lol. But I'll respond even if we haven't interacted before. I likely won't if they don't have info about them on their profile, or if they haven't made posts though. If I can't get a glimpse as to who you are or what your personality is, I won't respond. I don't respond to people who I don't think I can hold quality conversation with, because after I respond to them they can continue to message me unless I block them lol

Yes, I reply to everyone but it rarely happens. I'm much more more of a chatter than a poster, so it's exciting to get a PM. I like to talk to people and find out what they are interested in.

no, it is not a good idea. i delete many messages without response, mainly from guys who have apparently used up most of their vocabulary and all of their brain power to say, "Hi!!!"
