Why are some people on this site so rude and abusive, and when I call them out on their behaviour they become worse?

What is wrong with these people? Why can't they be civilised on the Internet?
Dan193 · 31-35, M
They think they're witty, but they're just pigs.
ArtieKat · M
@Dan193 I'll let @BrookeBondage answer that if she feels so inclined.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@ArtieKat No I mean the whole Manchester is like that, or is it just a specific area?
Like compared to London for example.
ArtieKat · M
@Dan193 I live at the other end of The East Lancs Road - I'm prejudiced ;-)
Fernie · F
It's just a microcosm of real life...you have every type of personality here just like out there. Don't expect anything else
MaryJanine · 61-69, F
I'm glad. Not everyone is familiar with it, but you do know about it.

I understand. But when you mention "tea", how many people automatically think, "Oh, Lipton."?
LyricalOne · F
They’re angry and unhappy and are safe to express it here without any repurcussions.
LyricalOne · F
@BrookeBondage Who knows why people are the way they are? There’s all kinds of people here with different life experiences and mental statuses. Wishing won’t make that any different.
LyricalOne · F
@SW-User Thank you. 🙂

@LyricalOne You always perfect sense when you describe and analyse the dynamics in this place !
ok...so ppl quite often are not "civilized" in real life, to each other's faces, but you are expecting that this will suddenly emerge in an anonymous, online forum which attracts outcasts & weirdos like a bug zapping light attracts bugs?

I think your basic premise should be reviewed... 😉
MaryJanine · 61-69, F
Sorry I misspelled - finger slip.

Wasn't intentional, I assure you.
@MaryJanine Hi. I figured you were probably not @BrookeBondage, but you still didn't notice...

My point was that you attacked *me* when I had never said anything to you.

I responded directly to the OP, @BrookeBondage.

Then you jumped down my throat. I have no idea who you are, but if anyone were to jump down my throat, it would make sense that *she* would...if she were so inclined.
MaryJanine · 61-69, F
I am a member of SW, as you are, too. I regret that you think I "jumped down your throat" as you phrased it. I defend my friends and people I agree with on this site. It's not necessary you know me. Most of us don't know each other from Adam or Eve.

They're not worth it. Some people are online just to get their anger out because they are too cowardly to actually try to be decent or solve things in their real lives.
jackson55 · M
@Kayay Right on Kay.
Freeranger · M
The short answer is that they're not req'd to. I guess anonymity gives them the cover(courage) for their truer, more base behavior to arise.
Anyway....Merry Christmas?

Well.....your or I would think that, however, quite a few consciously decide to wave that norm. BTW....just what is the new norm these days.....anyway, before I down spiral further, I'll just say I hear ya and agree. ;)
We could then get in to those who go off on us, have the last word and then block us right? Sorta like the car that pulls right out in front of you, and then doesn't accelerate with the flow of traffic....
I think I'm going to focus on a Merry Christmas. :)

Thank you.
MaryJanine · 61-69, F
I agree with you, Brooke. I am not someone who curses at someone online, and I wish people wouldn't do it to me. Like ragingfire says, "it shouldn't be deliberately done." If someone gives you the normal ordinary conversation and you respond with a dirty-minded conversation, do you wonder why you're out in left field? I don't. For example, the person I spoke to online not long ago. Whatever I said, and the subject wasn't controversial, he was determined to have the last word. He then insulted my late mother by calling her the "c" word (which I notice is becoming used quite commonly nowadays).Well, nobody but NOBODY is going to call my mother that and get away with it! I reported and deleted him FAST. The irony is, he didn't even KNOW my mother -or me.

Merry Christmas to us all on this site.
SW-User
Though some people deserve the rudeness, it shouldn't be deliberately done. That's the sign of insecurity and lack of intelligence. If they are like that, there's something really wrong with their heads and they need to get it checked.
SW-User
Don't get me going on this one. Firstly, if they don't like the topic they should avoid it instead if chipping in with obnoxious remarks and being contrary just for the sake of it.
@SW-User AGREED
jackson55 · M
Because they can be without any repercussions.
jackson55 · M
@BrookeBondage That's a great question. One would never send a email to someone with some of the thoughts they have here.
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
@jackson55 I once heard about someone who sent abusive emails to someone who had blocked them here. They had their email because they had taken the time to gain their trust. But yeah, most people wouldn't do that by email either.
jackson55 · M
@TeresaRudolph71 over the 10 years or so I've been on EP/ SW, I've given 2 people my email address. We email to this day, Christmas cards, bday greetings etc. I'd be very careful who from social sites I'd give my address or email address to.
Thanos · 31-35, M
People abuse when they run out of logical stuff to say 😅
MaryJanine · 61-69, F
You are so right.
Thanos · 31-35, M
@MaryJanine yes 😁
pdockal · 56-60, M
People are idiots and have week backbones
MaryJanine · 61-69, F
The people we are asking to be "civilized" are those that post dirty phrases or suggestive pictures, or get angry when we extend a olive branch of friendship and are rude about brushing us off. People tell me "it's always been like this" but I don't believe so. When administrators close their eyes and refuse to say that a complaint is "valid", then it's open season on how disgusting trolls and their ilk can talk, with one trying to outdo the others.
Unfortunately, some people say things online they wouldn’t dare in person, where they might risk a punch in the nose. 😒
Thanos · 31-35, M
@bijouxbroussard I wouldn't say anything online that I wouldn't be able to say in person 😅
MaryJanine · 61-69, F
I said as much to one person on this site once. He responded with every dirty kind of words and phrase and told me I shouldn't try to make over everybody on SW. I am pretty tolerant until they jump on me and start to abuse me online. You can't argue with a vulgar screen. If they get under your skin, delete and report...repeat.
I think its because jeremy kyles only on for an hour, then they get withdrawal symptoms .

Seriously,i think most just want attention from you, to them, thats better than being ignored. Inferiority complex all over that shit g
ninjavu · 51-55, M
It's the Internet. Keyboard cowboys with keyboard courage.
MaryJanine · 61-69, F
Either that, or one tries to outdo the others by filthy comments and double-meaning personal questions or replies. If you want the baby, you have to take the squall that comes with it. But remember, there is no guarantee whoever is responding or reading your postings may not be of adult age. This is when people who are supposed to be guardians of minors give them free access without any attached filters to "block" inappropriate information. There is a difference between 13 or 14 as opposed to 18 or 21.
ninjavu · 51-55, M
@MaryJanine Good point, but even many adults have the maturity of 13/14 year olds especially the kind of people we're talking about.
MaryJanine · 61-69, F
I get you, but I'm referring to the posts that actual 13-14 year old kids read AND RESPOND to, not knowing that stuff that is not meant for them. I have seen graphic posts that underagers have struck up conversations.
LetmecumInside · 51-55, M
Because that's what bullies do and being on the inter net gives them anonymity to say and do anything they like. It is much more effective to simply ignore them.
internet..CIVILIZED..!! without getting high i cant make sense out of it.
I don't know. I've seen that, too, sometimes. Maybe they're just angry at the world.
SW-User
Ignore, mute, block, report that's my order
SteelHands · 61-69, M
Totally unexpected. Lol
I’m just dumb.
