Did you know that 25% / 1/4 of people in this world knows Mandarin?

and I'm one of them. are you one of them???
HeadphonesDude · 31-35, M
The trend is reaching the point that eventually more research will be done in China and mandarin or cantonese (i don't remember), so its advantageous for people to start learning these Chinese languages now if they want to succeed.
AllisonMarkov · 22-25, F
@HeadphonesDude: probably Mandarin cause Cantonese is a dialect with 60 million speakers in the world. but it does share the same writing system as Traditional Chinese.
Everything I'm finding says it's 14%. I'm not sure how someone could really come up with an accurate number anyways.
AllisonMarkov · 22-25, F
@AcidBurn: I'm not sure either anymore. I saw it in a lot of youtube videos saying that it's 25%.
MikefromEP · 51-55, M
Did you know that english and spanish languages are close in second place ... at a tie...
AllisonMarkov · 22-25, F
@MikefromEP: I'm confused now.
MikefromEP · 51-55, M
@AllisonMarkov: Never too young to learn from the old... and never too old too learn from the young
AllisonMarkov · 22-25, F
@MikefromEP: okay then. 😮

There are roughly 7 billion people in the world. @AllisonMarkov:
Idk @AllisonMarkov:
AllisonMarkov · 22-25, F
@Iamnolongerhere: same. I heard it on a youtube video that it's 25%. IKD if it really is.

but it's not that surprising if you think about it. Mandarin is a must take language in many countries (like Singapore and Malaysia). and Kanji, Taiwanese is all the same with Chinese... and the number of people who escaped or decided to live in China during WWII and considering all the Chinese immigrants around the world.
CalmUnderThePalm · 31-35, M
Unfortunately, I've lost interest.
beepbopbeep · 31-35, F
Nope, it doesn't matter to me since English is still widely used as of now anyway.
AllisonMarkov · 22-25, F
@beepbopbeep: yes. 400 million English speakers in the world.
but don't you at least need a second language to get into university? at least that's what i was told.
beepbopbeep · 31-35, F
@AllisonMarkov: English is my second language. :)
AllisonMarkov · 22-25, F
@beepbopbeep: thats good. what's your first?
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
Of course and it's not even that big of a deal.
HeadphonesDude · 31-35, M
@lockedupforgood: Its actually a huge deal for academia. Lots of amazing research is being done in China.
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
@HeadphonesDude: I meant that that fact is obvious conclusion of the fact that around that many people live in China.
AllisonMarkov · 22-25, F
@lockedupforgood: Roughly 50% of Chinese people knows Mandarin.
so there are roughly six hundred eighty-seven million five hundred thousand Mandarin Speakers in China.
and the rest of the people that people Mandarin are all outside of China.
