Why did Apple endorse that stupid U2 album "song of Innocence?

So stupid it's beyond comprehension. I love the old U2 tracks, their new songs are crap.

it's commercial success was mixed. The album was a reflective piece for the band...not everyone grew up in Ireland...

or knows who Joey Ramone was... ( not Irish)

Artists go through phases...this was one of theirs...
not everything will be a hit or will resonate with everyone..

It cost Apple $100 million. What I can find online it was about "image, branding, positioning and hype". Hard to measure if it was worth it. But that amount of money is spare change to them.
@Mordimoux: First thing I did is remove it. If it was U2 earlier albums....sweet. This new shite sounds like demons screeching on a cold windy day.

Yes, millions of people removed it immediately. But millions of people also listened to it. It was also around that time they bought Beats from Dre. They were making strives towards music. Don't know why they chose U2 specifically. But you can't please everyone.

Apple has a very special relationship with Ireland. Their European quarters are there, paying outrageously low taxes.
@Cierzo: A friend of mine joke about that when it first came out.
Perhaps they paid Bono a large wad of money to allow them to do so? Just a thought :)
@Justbychance: It has to be something to that effect.
@Whiteflowerintheocean: I think it is because if there is no 'reward' in it then neither party would be interested even in the idea :)

If it's free it must be good, oh wait :)
