What have we learned from the passenger being "voluntarily removed" from the United Airlines flight?

We learned that 800 bucks and doing something kind isn't a motivator.
We learned a bit about airline overbooking.
We were reminded that disobeying an airline employee on a plane is a crime.
We learned that United Airlines has ZERO idea how to craft a public message.
We also learned that there are some airport security police who shouldn't be allowed anywhere near situations that require security.
Very good observations. Interesting that first class and business (frequent flyers) are never overbooked.

@Coyotedave611: True. But I guess that's part of the purchase price. A little added protection and exclusion. That's everywhere.

We knew already that most corporations, not only airlines, treat their customers only as moving wallets instead of human beings.
The lesson from this incident is that it is important that such practises are made viral. Financial loses is the only language they know.

We learned the passenger is a kook. A disgraced doctor who traded oxys for gay sex. He was found by a psychiatrist to have poor decision making skills.

Think with me - If your kid in the canteen has bought a burger and is settling down to fill his stomach and then the principal comes along and takes it away to give it to four other kids because the stall has no more burgers, you would gladly let your kid starve that day, is that it?

Whose fault is it? It is the management's fault. I wonder why it is so hard for some to see it.

I think the overbooking is a bit of a fraud airlines have been getting away from this for wayyyy too long.

it wasn't over booking...they suddenly needed to fly a bunch of pilots somewhere so they removed 4 people from the plane...3 went reluctantly...this guy fought back
"First come first served"? The man was already sitting in a seat. Does that mean that people showed up after he did so he was chosen (?) to be removed so that they could get on? Don't they count the number of people going thru the gate and once the number of seats are filled stop anymore from getting on and book them on a new flight or reimburse them? I also heard (on the news ?) that prior to the incident he was loud and disruptive and that people complained and when they tried to remove him he became belligerent and abusive. And that the airlines used the excuse of overbooking to remove him. Why the hell would they need an excuse if he was ?

That he was an inconsiderate jerk that inconvenienced all the other passengers. Because of him the other passengers were delayed over an hour.

@lastbabyboomer: Law had nothing to do with it. You said "this is common practice" That doesn't make it right, or necessarily lawful. He had paid his money. They decided someone else was more important.

People will continue flying United because they have the cheapest fares - which just shows people are whores and corporate America knows this...as a result we continue marching day by day toward dystopia...

@Fernie: on the lighter side - all that over a 300 mile flight - they delayed everyone and created a PR nightmare - the 4 dopey pilots could've rented a car for $200 bucks and probably get there in less time than it took them...

@fun4us2b: you are not the first person I heard say that about the 300 mile road trip they should have arranged for the pilots. United did that thing to that little girl not long ago...tossed her off the plane..or refused to let her on..I forget...because she was wearing leggings...she was 9 I think...they need to get a grip
