When would you say modern radical Islam started in the modern day?

When do you think it started and why?

Was it the 40s that Israel was put on the map? Before that though the dirty muzzles were a problem in this world too. Peaceful religion my ass.

@GoldenWorm: my last comment was a play on the words in crabbyhermit comment before that. I was trying to show that changing the "labels" of religion to race does not make the slurs any better

@crabbyhermit: thanks for commenting I got nothing against you and you are entitled to believe what you want to believe. :)

@Curiousguy833: oic. crabby was the one using slurs
I'm going to try and summarize, but you could read volumes of history. What we might know as radical Islam or Islamic terrorism actually began after the 6 day war in 1967 when Israel defeated Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, and Lebanon. Knowing they could never defeat Israel using standard war, the leader of the PLO--Yassar Arafat--invented a new tactic to fight that included suicide bombing and general terrorism. This new tactic was brought to the forefront of the world's attention during the 1972 Munich Olympic games. So, since 1967 it's been a series of terrorist attacks covering 50 years and 8 different Presidents from both parties.

Interesting, and would you say that's the birth of terrorism? Or even religious terrorism?
The birth of modern Islamic terrorism which is specific to your question. The cold reality is people have been wacking each other for ever regardless.
all the way in the 70s when the usa funded a coupe in iran and installed a puppet president....40 years of backlash, cold war, and conflict of interests plays a part of whats going on today

When america gave it a name and a reason after 9/11. It all seemed to fall into place then, how convenient.

I remember them hijacking airplanes way back in the 60's when i was a kid. But as I said, I was just a kid so they could have been doing stuff for ages.
Curiousguy833 · 31-35, M
Ok that's fine...and have there been any hickjacking of planes before that? Because you might be right and we should look at all the hickjacking of planes and find out of the religious belief of all of those people.

You are probably right the 60's was a very religious time.. they must have been breeding them for a while,a sure it got nothing to do with individual problems in life or mental illness etc. it was because of Islam alone 👍🏽

I think history shows us they have been "radicalized" for thousands of years but you asked about more recent times. I can;t swear but i believe there were hijackings in the 50's too. There were a very tiny minority of hijackings done by non-islamists but they were by and large from the middle east and their beef was, according to one movie I watched on a specific hijacking, our support of Israel. Hatred for Israelis (Jews) goes back thousands of years and the 1948 UN creation of an Israeli state seems to have really pissed them off. Never mind that a nut job tried to wipe out the entire Jewish race.

Kind of an oxymoron. But the Wahhabists been at it since the late 19th century. I think you'll find them the source of most 'Radical Islam.'
it didn't start in the modern world. it's been around for ages. modern media just brought it to our attention. that's all
Curiousguy833 · 31-35, M
Modern media has brought a lot of things into our attention, we live in a world where there is a false news by mainstream media and even Facebook is not safe (am talking about normal stores as well..would you agree?)
GoldenWorm · 51-55, M
No, 'radical islam' is fundamentally an old phenomia as was 'radical chistianity'. Google 'christian muslim 1.0 and 2.0' for a pretty good history lesson.
