not in a long time

Back in the 1960s, "Fuzz" was a less offensive insult than "Pig". Wikipedia sez it goes back to 1863, in London, when bobbies began wearing felt-covered helmets.

That's interesting! :)
ajoite · 51-55, F
Yes when I was younger, then it was pigs, bit mean to actual pigs
VeronicaPrincess · 61-69
I never liked the term "pigs". Cops are just people - some are assholes, but most of them are good 😊
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@VeronicaPrincess: an older cop at the university said some of the students in the 70's would start making sniffing sounds and say "Is that bacon I smell" when he'd walk past them...he was laughing when he told me.
ajoite · 51-55, F
@VeronicaPrincess: Also in the UK we say bobbies and people that are volunteer police are called "Hobby bobbies"
lorne13 · 61-69, M
i think fuzz was mostly a tv term, "pigs" was more common
VeronicaPrincess · 61-69
Sadly, yes. Police weren't very well respected by the baby boom generation.
hunkalove · 61-69, M
@VeronicaPrincess: And even less respected now, and for very good reasons.

I remember a joke I heard years ago. Some girl wanted to join a biker gang and they were asking her some questions to see if she was suitable material. One asked her, "have you ever been caught by the fuzz?" And she replies, "no, but I've been swung round by the tits a couple of times".
specialED1256 · 56-60, M
@Glossy: very clever lol
Glossy · F
Of course, this wouldn't work any more. These days, police aren't called "the fuzz" and females don't have any hair.
specialED1256 · 56-60, M
They dont@Glossy:
Why do I have a picture of Barretta and his friend "Huggy Bear" in my mind now?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
I remember when that term was used in movies and tv shows....I don't think I ever used it.

I don't understand why they are called that ...are they fuzzy ? 🤔
VeronicaPrincess · 61-69
Check Hunkalove's reply - he explains it! 😊

Bad boys bad boys what ya gonna do when they come for you.
ajoite · 51-55, F
We get that at 4am in the UK, nothing much else to watch
LaFemmeAmelie · 31-35, F
is it a British term? never heard it outside of British slang
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
That is an old one at least in the US, don't hear it much anymore.
Newandimproved · 61-69, M
Yup. Amd things were groovy and outta sight
Degbeme · 70-79, M
Years ago. lol
Degbeme · 70-79, M
Now you got me thinking about my youth. :)
VeronicaPrincess · 61-69
Yay! 😊
@Degbeme: Me too , deg. Back when Eldridge Cleaver was lead of the Black Panthers. Folks we chanting "Free Huey" and the Chicago 7 disrupted the 1968 Democratic Convention.
SW-User
I've never used it. I've always just said cops
specialED1256 · 56-60, M
I still call them the fuzz
specialED1256 · 56-60, M
All the time back in some day
Myself11 · 61-69, M
