Have you noticed customer service taking a nosedive in this new economy?

I was on the phone with my insurance company for the better part of 2 hours and when I finally got to speak to someone, I was told the IVR sent me to the wrong person! I was livid!
I'd be willing to get a poorer plan with a poorer company if they'd have better customer service, but what if there's no such thing? I've noticed that PetSmart's and 2 different banks' customer service has been staggeringly incompetent! What's your experience been?
I don't like that I can't go directly to customer service. They make you answer a bunch of questions before you get connected to a rep. Then you have to repeat a lot of those questions when you actually talk to someone.

My insurance customer service is usually pretty good once I get connected. I have had experiences with other customer services that took hours and that is frustrating. If you go to the wrong place you have to start all over. Not fun.

Recently I had to call my bank because somebody stole my card information and they were making unauthorized purchases. The lady who answered my call was being really weird. I was starting to think she might not be a real agent. She asked me the same question 3 or 4 times about a purchase. She sounded out of it. I was very leery.
I cant talk to people anemore!!! Its all press 1 *says operator* were sorry thats not a valid selection *presses 0* were sorry *yells operator* were sorry *starts pounding numbers* goodbye *gets hung up on*

🤔........Had to call customer service for personal and work and both times I could barely understand the CSR.............And then another time last week I called the bank and the VRU menu had changed and was so convoluted that I just had to ask for a live body to help with the issue, were before it was so simple to just use the VRU............The CSR told me they were updating the VRU menu and it should be completed soon.
Customer service is just annoying anymore.

I think it’s the hiring practices of the past few years, so instead of competence and professionalism in their employees, they look for those that tick all the PC boxes.

love how they bide their time when you need something, and put you on hold endlessly...

yet, when you get tired of their shit and cancel them, they have nothing but time to call you constantly wanting your business back...

Did the person who responded even speak English? My last disaster was with my cell carrier who had no idea what i was asking!
@samueltyler2 as far as I could tell she was down the road from me. I haven't had to deal with the Calcutta cacophony in quite some time, im happy to say

Customer Service is no longer about assisting customers. It is about selling customers every bell and whistle possible without helping at all.

It’s been like this for last 5-10 years. No such thing as customer service anymore

@Jeffrey53 every now and then you hit a really good connection.

Nobody wants to deal in customer service at the end of the day.

Yep
Almost the trained culture and mantra
...it took a nosedive long ago.

Most customer service is awful, especially if they're a REALLY big company because they have zero interest in keeping your business. You're just a number to them.
