Sugar is addictive. It releases huge amounts of dopamine when you eat it, which is weird because it's so bad for you in a host of ways.
But from an evolutionary perspective, sugar was rare. It was a prized commodity that meant energy and calories, what our distant ancestors needed to survive. So our brains learned to prioritize sugar-laden foods.
It's not your fault. I mean, discipline is pretty useful skill to develop, but it's literally our monkey brains tricking us into loading up on sweet stuff. It's one reason why a lot of food companies put sugar into their products. Bread, yogurt, cereal, sauces. They want you buying more of their sh#t, so they hijack your brain using sugar
