Is anyone scared for this country right now?

More than 900 hate crimes in America since the election
SW-User
this country was always fucked up.. people are just paying more attention to it. look at the riots after the election society is messed up in general.
VioletRayne · 31-35, F
@nedkelly: 1919 had nothing to do with MLK. There was a lot of bullshit going on when people were fighting for their civil rights. I'm not saying it doesn't happen. I'm saying this is happening because of Trump. If you make people feel like they have no hope and there is no outlet for them, they take it out on everything around them. Trump has made people feel that way. There is real fear of persecution, of being thrown back into a society where nothing but Lily white is acceptable. That's going to bring with it violence unless someone steps up and says you aren't going to fix anything by destroying live and livelihoods. That person can't be Trump. To a lot of people Trump may as well be riding around on a horse in a white hood burning crosses. We need someone sensible to make a stand on both sides. Trump can curtail the sycophantic section of his following but there needs to be another figure to curtail the enraged section of the rest of society.

@VioletRayne: you stated no riots before because MLK -wrong
VioletRayne · 31-35, F
@nedkelly: Ok let me specify since you want to nitpick. I was speaking in a general sense. Before MLK there was lots of Riots, lots of unrest, lots of hopelessness during MLK there was less riots because He showed people that it wouldn't work, he urged that people had to voice their concerns without it. Was there still rioting yes, but usually through oppositional outliers like the panthers and Malcolm X. It is evident that there is no one with any real influence like King urging peaceful change, Urging unity, Urging human decency. People have been vilifying the idea of PC and saying it doesn't really serve a purpose, well do you like what you see when PC is out the door? Words matter! Wars have been started over less🙄
jennypenny · 70-79, F
But has this increased since the election or just a product of Hilliary's fans?
Ynotisay · M
I'm not sure you have a handle on what constitutes a "hate crime."
VioletRayne · 31-35, F
[c=#4C0073]And there's the partisan bullshit. Can we for once stop with the this side, that side crap and look at the reality. People are being harassed and hurt because they look different than others. That in itself should bring pause or does it only matter when it's against your side? [/c]
MartinII · 70-79, M
In the UK, the police are required to classify as a hate crime any alleged crime which the "victim" says was a hate crime - regardless of the evidence, and regardless of whether anyone is convicted of an offence.

Wait'll we start getting brown shirts in the streets.
hunkalove · 61-69, M
@MrBrownstone: First came the brown shirts, bullies in gangs who beat up people on the streets, especially Jews. They had the support of the government.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@hunkalove: Trust me. I know a lot about Nazi germany and know how these things start.
hunkalove · 61-69, M
@MrBrownstone: Yep.

"Make America great again"

A nationalist slogan to motivate masses
I'd watch this space about how this will all pan out... I'm an optimist / realist by nature... but would not be too optimistic about the next four years...
hunkalove · 61-69, M
One of the few things I will give Trump credit for, he could say America has failed. Hillary and Obama couldn't admit that.
@hunkalove: What Trump identifies as the reasons are questionable, though. Scapegoating people of color and immigrants---message received by white supremacists everywhere.
hunkalove · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard: True. But America has failed. Trump is just going to help it fail more.

I am scared for the country. Hate crimes are on the rise. Locally, multiple incidents were reported, including more than one attack on Mosques, and a couple of incidents, I personally witnessed. The latter are not "attacks", but acts of hatred and discrimination, using the election results as guideline.

The real worry though, is about how isolationism, might negatively affect our future generations.
BlueRaine · 51-55, F
Not scared. The best president won. I'm sure he will get this nonsense under control

I'm scared for THIS country and I'm in Canada! What goes on in the USA tends to spill over into the rest of the world :(
VioletRayne · 31-35, F
[c=#4C0073]😍 Love your picture star. [/c]
Cinnamon · 31-35, F
@VioletRayne: thanks... whoever that is represents me well lol ;)
I am. When Trump was told during his campaign that his followers were attacking people they thought were here illegally, Sikhs and other groups they mistook for Muslims, his reply was a shrug and "My supporters are very passionate." After he was elected and was told, he pretended to be surprised and said, "That makes me sad. I would say to them, 'Stop it. Stop that', if that helps." And the same groups that reported all the protests as "riots" (including a couple of completely peaceful ones I attended personally) are claiming that hate crimes are "mostly faked or exaggerated". I have no idea what's coming down the pike, but I'm not terribly optimistic.
Cinnamon · 31-35, F
Thank you for protesting and for letting us know about your experience!

I agree with Cinnamon. Thank you.
No. This world has always been messed up and had terrible things happening and going on. Seen and unseen behind closed doors. No Election or new President in the Untied States or any President in any country for that matter will change it. The problem of Sin can't be changed by laws that are passed by man or rules done by man or squeaky clean kindness and doing good deeds everyday for the rest of your life or by the police. The people that aren't Followers of Christ are not going to believe no matter what anybody else says or shows them (for evidence and for proof that's obvious). And NO I'm not trying to preach and convert anybody. I'm just talking. But for those that hold strong to the hope and grace and to the cross. You already Know where our Salvation lies at already. No matter what happens in this world be it good, bad, evil, or in different. So I'm not scared one bit, not even one nano second
nedkelly · 61-69, M
Do you have a link for these figures
plumbcurious · 36-40, M
Also watch the documentary Requiem of the American dream. We can make change as a people if we unite in a focused non violent fashion. Remember just like this past election we can not win if the majority of a single state is united but the majority of each state has to be united for the cause.
plumbcurious · 36-40, M
Look up the American anti-corruption act and participate if your worried. It needs all the sponsors it can get. The hate is the minority of those who are not educated enough to know better.
Goralski · 51-55, M
And most against trump supporters: (
wingeyes · 36-40, F
Lol no cmon you don't see all those videos against people of color going around
plumbcurious · 36-40, M
Theowl,
In the 60's America was in great stride but when the protesting and civil right movements started the government reminded the large corporations what power they had in the government infuance. This economy can still run like a well oiled machine but we the people have to command and demand it works for us
