Why do people sympathize a child getting pushed around but not an adult!

My 3 year old nephew is a sweetie and my his dad (my brother) said poor little guy gets pushed around and he’s teaching him to be a man and be more assertive.

My family says I still get pushed around and I complain about not getting respect. My besties get irritated and yelled, “Then do something about it! What are we saying? You’re not going yo do anything or fight. You’re too much of a coward to have respect for yourself. You’re not going to stand up for yourself. It’s not like you care.”
One of my other friends said, “Any grown ass person that lets people push them around, yelled at them and let’s people disrespect them and and don’t fo anything about it is just plain pathetic!”
I wasn’t called pathetic when I was a little girl. Why are they harsher with me now that I’m older?

That sounds like a very hard up bringing. I say this as a father of two children. There is NO need to push a 3 year old around. He 3 for fuck sake. Let him enjoy being a kid.
Usually guys who have communication issues tend to push their kids around because they only know how to “communicate” with physical violence and being rough. It’s also likely that the dad was pushed around by his dad when he was growing up so that’s all he knows.

@justanothername But what about me? People say I don’t get sympathy because I’m a grown ass woman and I shouldn’t let that happen and it makes me a coward.

@LaylaTheTallGirl same thing goes for you. If you don’t like the way people treat you then you should say “I don’t like what you are doing or saying to me”

@justanothername I do sometimes. It bothers me when I’m called a coward or weak. It gets stuck in my head. I hate when people call me soft hearted

A child lacks the skills required to respond properly to such abuse, whilst adults are expected to have acquired them. However, in my observation of humans, it seems no one is teaching such skills in school.

@CorvusBlackthorne Parents need to teach those skills at home.
